WRX MY99 door lock timer

Was playing around up under the dash of the wifes car today and found a box with a label on it 'Door lock timer', the box and wiring are OE, what does it do?
The doors dont automatically lock, im confused...

If the car is locked and you unlock it using the remote key... if you dont then open a door within 30 seconds, it relocks itself. If you do open a door, it remains unlocked.

It prevents you from accidentally unlocking a car after you have locked it by putting the keys in your pocket.

ah ok, so where is the remote locking controller and what does it look like? Also, what does the actuator motor look like in the door?

I edited this because im unsure if its wise to post info about the security system on a public forum. I've never seen a later subaru lock articulator.
Ill drop those calipers at your dads place in about an hour.
