Brumby strut spring paint codes

Post by steptoe » Tue May 08, 2012 10:33 pm

Some may recall my little search for a pair of rear springs for my Vortex based on their height, wire thickness and paint daubs to ID them - being from L Series RX rear, thanks to many, especially Subius Sam in Hobart and was it Nevillle? up north for having one only each !

Since looked at the springs up front and their colours don't match each other. Definitely thanks to Neville for a matching paint colour jobbie to fit up front one day.

>>>>fast forward to June 20,12 and I am pulling my 92 Brumby struts out and note lime green and white combo paint daubs on the RHS and bugger me , the bloody LHS has lime and yellow, the lime is the uppermost colour and the paint daubs are on the coils about midway up/down, a coil or two apart

Now, wondering if Subaru fitted a different spring left to right, like Ford did with Foulcans etc - at least K-Mac made aftermarket stuff that was handed - and I found a workshop that fitted them wrong way back then..... :(

The Brumby struts both had production date stickers on them 920118 YYMMDD . My new genuine struts have an 09 make date on them, same style sticker. How many other manufacturers supply parts for 20 years !

I am thinking no one has ben where I have been and these springs came factory. Wonder if the parts books indicate LHS / RHS for Brumby.

I could look at my L Series struts one day to see if they differ ??

Well, well, FROG is gonna pipe in and say the L Series front strut springs are part numbered LH and RH !! So guess all our old Subies are !!

Please, Brumby owners, if you have original gear onboard and can see beyond mud and cowpoo what colours yoo got each side and year model - could help trivia !!

thanks Paul, think I have answered query myself with further research but worth posting it up in hre in case a job turns up in someones paddock workshop with both springs removed and ready to reassemble ....now, which one was right and which is left ...ah, doesn't madder ..... the Subie parts catalogues do not use paint colours to help ID once sold and out of their wrappers.
