L series Tank Capacity

Post by booma » Tue May 30, 2006 9:28 pm

Hey All,

I have a question (which may have been answered before).

My 92 L series Sportswagon fuel tank supposedly has a capacity of 60 litres.

However I have only ever been able to squeeze a max of 35 + litres into it ?

Also the fuel gauge is way too inaccurate (a while ago I took the sender unit out of the tank and cleaned gunk out of it).

Any ideas ?

I've got a carbied L series with a crook fuel gauge/sender, when full it reads empty, when half full it reads half full, when empty it reads really empty, like way below the line. So maybe your fuel gauge is giving you dodgy readings. While mine is inaccurate, it's reliable, so I've never bothered fixing it. It was safe with a carbied car to run out of fuel to test where the actual empty is on the gauge, I don't know if it is safe on an injected model.

Definatly 60 odd litre capacity in an L though.

Don't mean to steal this thread, but i have a similar problem with my '92 L wagon. I usually get 400 k's from a tank, that is until the gauge is on empty, and it usually takes 40L's to fill, which is ok. Does that mean i still have around 200k's left in her?

Also a little problem that I have been having lately is poor fuel consumption. Up until the last few fill ups i have consistently got 10.0L/100k which im happy with off regular unleaded. However the last few fill ups have given me a fuel consumption of around 11.3-11.5/100k which has got me a little worried. I havent driven any different, and its been the same fuel thats gone in everytime. I know 11.3 isnt too bad but me being particular about my car this has got me worried.

What can any of you recommend? Adjust fuel mixture perhaps? Leak in the fuel line somewhere?

Thanks 92subbie

yeah that right you should have about 20L of fuel left. id suggest checking your tune and carby settings for your fuel problem.

92subbie, maybe start a new thread about consumption issue, give details about your engine carbie or MPFI someone is bound to be able to offer some advice.
