2 dead subi's a farm wagon coming up
G'day Guy's,
Well with that new head gasket on our subi wagon being a waste of time as water kept leaking and a subi car local the same blowing a gas tank but the engine and front section are still good. I could have 2 old ones to make either a 6 or 8 wheel drive farm buggy. I did go and look at a 6 wheel drive about 6 years ago but the missus said no way your not paying 2K for it. I did say if I ever get the chance to build my own I will....
I'm not sure yet of the other car or any details but I will be getting it on the weekend ( eh I'm a local here for free delivery of donor subi's will be appreciated ).
So keep in touch as I do have some hurdles but either 6 or 8 wheel subi farm vehicle is on the go...

Nice. I've always pondered the idea of a 6x6 L series - all wheel drive with lock-able centre diff between front and rear drives and another locking "centre diff" between the two rear wheels 
I've got the centre diff between the front and rear drives ready to go... Just need the rear end welded on and an engineer that approves the whole thing so I can actually use it offroad/touring

Seen a MY chassis buggy, with 13 inch bobcat tyres, complete with 6x6 drive.
The last 2 were chain driven off a sprocket from the rear diff.
Crazy I know, but it was way scary and seated 6 people in 'comfort'.
As you are in SA, I'm guessing you this one that Steve built and sold about 6 years ago?

Hi Sven,
The one I saw was on ebay and me and a mate went around and looked at it, the guy said this was one of 6 built by a guy in Adelaide and they were built for racing. It had 10 speeds 5 in high range 5 in low range so it could go from a crawl to 100K's easily. Off memory the rear wheel were setup by a chain drive going to a subi dif and all 6 wheels were driven by the uni drive shafts. They were setup on a pretty steep angle and he did say they were prone to wearing out.
Hopefully I'll find out tonight if I can strip our subi as my father in law does own it, now once I do get the go ahead I'll start designing the chassis in autocad as this is going to be a huge project and by designing it up in 3D to scale hopefully no big stuff ups will occur. My idea is to make a 6 wheel drive tipper with a hydraulic lift arm so heavy objects can be picked up easily.
One thing I do enjoy is making things that 'are out of the box' and a project of this nature will be one handy item for the farm.

Simple way out of it - shorten the tailshaft on one car as much as possible so that this setup becomes the 4 rear wheels and then run another engine and box in FWD mode for the front 2 wheels. Might be a bit more fabrication to set up initially but will be mechanically much better and more reliable and no custom made parts to break and have to be remade. And if one engine breaks down you can still finish the job and get home in time for beers
