L series A/C thermo fan

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and are planning a great New Year.
Spent Boxing day fixing things broken on Christmas day.
Could have done without the twisted card pin internally on the 2nd hand DSi

(had to buy 4 of them so ebay got a work out):p

Anyway, can anyone tell me if the thermo fan on an 92 model L series with A/C comes on as soon as the A/C switch is turned on (like the MY's) or does the fan come on when the engine reaches a certain temperature.
When I turn on the A/C with the engine running the thermo fan does not start.
Have not had time to run the engine for a long period to see if a temp switch turns it on or not but will put a multimeter on the wiring later if time permits.

If wired correctly then yes it sould come on when ignition is on and a/c button is pressed in.

There should be an extra plug assemble (additional wiring loom) attached to the fan. From memory, it has a yellow with white trace wire and a black wire.

The a/c loom intercepts the normal (non a/c loom) and allows the fan to be controlled by a seperate relay.

You are right the fan should come on with the ignition on and A/C button pushed.
I have found my problem which is the connector that plugs into the electric fan wiring. It has suffered an overheating issues at some stage and the connector has had it.
Not the connector side on the fan but the other side into a short loom and to another larger connector.
Off to the wreckers tomorrow and see if they have one that is in better condition.
Simply fix in this case.

That could be the problem.

The other one is: does your AC actually work when you push the button? I ask as the AC system won't work as it should if you've lost the required pressure to operate the system. If there's not enough gas pressure to engage the compressor when you want the AC working, the fans don't come on either. But the thermo(s) will still work with the thermo switch

Did you write this in a hurry Bennie?

I'm guessing you meant that 'If there's not enough gas in the system then the A/C compressor clutch wont engage' hehe

Sorry had to do it

I also believe the electric fan should still turn on though.

They wouldn't turn on with the AC switch on and no gas in the system for me in the L series or the brumby. But they would turn on for the thermo switch.

I didn't write that in a rush Paul, I may have not picked my wording properly - if there's not enough gas in the system to keep the pressure switch closed then the compressor isn't engaged either, nor are the fans... That's my understanding of it

Thanks everyone.
Problem solved.
I am currently picking over a 91 and a 93 model L series cars at the local wreckers and I picked up the required new short harness and now the A/C thermo comes on when the A/C switch is pushed. The A/C always worked but when I nearly boiled the car last week while looking for a parking spot at the shopping centre (yes Muswellbrook has a shopping centre) I realised something was not cooling the engine right and then found the dodgy wiring.
