Putting turbo engine in another subie?

Post by muriel » Wed Dec 14, 2011 9:09 am

Hey there,
Does anyone know how hard it is to put my turbo L series engine into another Lseries - wiring, etc? My subie is rusted out. Just going to transfer engine and lift kit to another one... Thanks!

If the "other L" is a fuel injected one and preferably a four ECU plug car then its reasonably straightforward .

You'll need to swap everything over. Can be done but be prepared for a FEW late nights.

Just swap the whole loom over from front indicator/head light to rear tail lights. A bit of work but a pot load easier than cutting up and splicing the turbo loom into the new L series...

It'll work best when going from a wagon to a wagon or a sedan to another sedan as the plugs will be a direct plug and play ;)

I've swapped the loom in Ruby Scoo twice now. Don't ask...

Cheers

Cheers for the help.
It's an 86 wagon with an EA82, so i'll just try to find a matching one and see how she goes. Sounds like fun! lol

If it's in a wagon it's already a conversion - so before you strip out the wiring of the replacement subi, check the donor's wiring to see if the engine loom is separate and has been spliced in. If this is the case it'll be easier for you to do the transfer - just pay attention to were the wires under the dash are connected to the stock loom.

You'll also need to take the engine crossmember with you as this will have the gusset for the turbo up-pipe - the non turbo L series don't have this divot ;)

Cheers
