Not sure if that would work here though, what with commodore drivers and boy racers :???:

My speedo consistently indicates 10 km/h above my actual speed, so indicated 60 I'm actually doing 50. Haven't gotten a ticket yet  Although I do take it into account and drive at indicated 70 in 60 zones so I don't get tailgated, but people still tailgate and overtake...Dunno what their rush is we all end up stopped at the same traffic lights anyway.
dubai doesnt have speed limits... alcohol is also completely illegal there

and no lives would be lost either , would be the governments view point.

wish i could find an article that was forecasting an increase of road death tol in yars to come for various reasons. One obvious reason is an increasing population, increasing number of drivers and cars and kilometers covered.

The annual death toll is only expressed as a number of lives lost, not a percentage of the population

If only that were true. You will often hear on the news report on a fatality that "speed was a factor"...

Well no s**t! Speed is a factor in all accidents...its pretty hard to have an accident when both cars are stationary!

What they should say is excessive speed...driving at an unsafe speed for the conditions, which i am against people doing, also talking/texting on the phone, doing make-up, eating breakfast (cereal...yes a bowl of cereal complete with milk!), reading the paper or a novel. All of which i have seen people do!

All of which are dangerous & stupid at ANY speed.

IMHO...

years ago in some NZ towns they had a "LSZ"...Limited Speed Zone, where there wasnt an official speed limit, just what the officer thinks is a safe speed for the conditions. Not sure if they still exist though. Very subjective too...

Yes the autobahn, any speed limit you like and less accidents than we have at 60km/h
Why I here you ask?
DRIVER TRAINING, they are trained so much better than us. I should know.
All i have to do to get my license is pass 8/8 give way questions (easy) And 32/42 Multiple choice, (easy). And then i can drive home
Ive done the practice test online. They are so strait forward!
Ok yes most of our accidents are caused by excessive speed, and or alcohol and drugs. BUT the amount of times someone runs a red light and gets hit, or gets hit at a intersection etc.
The other day mud king in his merc hit someone side on and royally f***ed her door. She ran a red light, he couldn't stop in time (you wouldn't expect he could).
All when the person was going at 60km/h or less. Dad was rear ended, the person slipped off the brake pedal.

Cheers Cam

Sorry, i was making it sound worse for her not you. You were scratch free right?
Just trying to argue my point that the system fails. Making the age older is going to do jack s**t. just means the accidents will be older. Same with the age of P platers. Just means their will be more P plater accidents as their will be more of them.
We need training!!!

2nd Hand Yank wrote:I've been here since Feb 2011 and at first it seemed WA had only a few, but now I'm starting to see them almost everywhere. I've been flashed a few times and had one ticket mailed to me, though I believe I was never driving recklessly, just matching the current road conditions.

I've seen on websites that talk about them, saying the new govt. in WA is short on cash, under funding for the police dept, so speed cameras are supposed to be there to compensate, even raise revenue... :???:
Yep. We in vic have more speed cameras than the rest of Australia put together! Our state government even budgets for the expected income from speeding fines...
95Liberty wrote:u almost have 2 stare at speedometer instead of the road nowdays
Sad but true, especially in the suburbs where you need your eyes on the road the most.
2nd Hand Yank wrote:A great idea, but mine doesn't have cruise control.
Add it. Not hard to do and costs about the same as the smallest fine for speeding that you can get here in vic.
nachaluva wrote:Personally i wouldnt have a problem with speed cameras if they were outside schools or accident black spots. But they're not! they're just a means of government revenue now

Apparently the Vic government makes about $400,000,000 per year from camera revenue! No wonder theres so many of em here.

Plus theres been no PROVEN link to show they actually reduce road fatalities. In fact they may actually increase the frequency of accidents by forcing drivers to watch their speedo instead of the road ahead.

There are several councils overseas that are actually removing speed cameras.

imho...
That ^ and I wouldn't be opposed to them IF the revenue raised through fines went back into the road infrastructure and the public transport system.

Dunno about cam's source, but I think you'll find that in the NT their fatality rate has gone up since introducing the max legal limit as 130km/h.

Yankee, if you've got oversized tyres as you've said, you should be much more conscious of your speed!

Germany does have a lower fatality rate, but they drive audis and bmws which are designed for high speed and 100 times safer than a frikin commonwhore.

Who's the Yankee?
Me? Hahaha.
If I was a Yankee, I might be in Florida or Texas instead of Oz;
suitable weather, cheaper cost of living and an easier move from Toronto.

The weather in Australia definitely suitable,
but I'm 12 hours time difference from home, as well as in the opposite hemisphere.

Hijack thread commence

Germany and Australia have a very similar rate of road deaths.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_co ... death_rate

The roads in Germany are of a better design as are the cars but the rate is still comparable. to the scientific eye perhaps worse because of the advances in technology and driving conditions.

Please remember about a third of the Autobahn is speed unlimited the rest of it has limits either temporary or permanent. There is the Richtgeschwindigkeit as well.

as for the Autobahn being safe youtube seems to think different type in "autobahn accident" for a list that is very comprehensive.

Now if you want to go fast I suggest the road from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, where the speed limits are governed by how many ringget you have in your wallet when the nice police officer stops you for speeding. :)
