on the digital temp gauge radiator side of thermostat it got to 100 degrees. You might recall Jules it did worse once before and it had an air lock on the side of number 1 cylinder. But this time there was no air lock that I could determine.

I did have a slight leak though from a drain plug- one of those plastic type you use your hand to undo. So over 3 weeks the trike was there it might have been low on water. But the expansion bottle was full when I stopped at home, left motor running and carefully took off the radiator cap. It wasnt boiling. Neighbour supplied fibre washer for the plug and fixed that. No more leaks. went for a ride (gee - its such a sexual experience!) and it didnt go over 89 degress, thermo fan went on and down to 82 then fan went off- perfect. I have a suspicion there might have been a small air lock.

Guys I cant get over the mountain climb. Then when I just went for a ride as I cant sqeeze the throttle greatly as that second throat will cut the motor, I started in first and took off as fast as I could without the throttle opening that throat. Before I could think about it I was doing 60kph and rushing to get to 2nd. This is some contrast. I am well aware it isnt the awesone kick in the back like a ej22 but it feels so much better in EVERY respect than the 1916.

This is a happy day for me.Thankyou to all on this great forum. I'm sleeping in the shed.....

Webers can be a bugger to get the flat spot tuned out but with some tinkering, it is amazing how they perform once they are tuned right.

you might find the engine got hot on the hill climb because of the extra work it was doing. but it may have been losing pressure before the fibre gasket was put in place causing the engine to overheat. you will know for sure the next time you drive up the mountain :)

it went hot before the mountain though. I just went for another ride and debbie took the video. It didnt go over 90 degrees. Not a problem. Think I'll just monitor it.

I couldnt tilt the roof back on the way home to raise the body to get to the expansion bottle to give it water because the end of the tail pipes touched the roof fabric when tilted. So it may well have been low on water. When at home the expansion bottle was full but that wouldnt be a sure indication that there wasnt an air pocket around the temp gauge area????

The video has a segment where I drive past and full throttle gives a big backfire.

Anyway. we are delighted.

I take it we are not going to see video, until your production house has finished the final movie :)

The backfire under full throttle is interesting could be too much fuel in the mix, have you pulled the plugs since you got it running properly?

Hope you enjoy. PS listen carefully- there is sheep as audience! and the exhaust is rather quiet.....but lovely.

try this Bennie or google trike ea81 roof

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXwh4z8d66o

Been busy Bennie otherwise I'd organise a meet. Maybe over January or thereabouts. or if you are passing thru,.

Had to install a second thermo fan. the single Davies Craig 12 inch didnt cut it. the temp went up to 100 degrees cruising flat tar to shepp. But this arvo the second one was put on and towed the van and no problems at all. had thermo fans cut in at 88 degrees with a 82 degree thermostat and it would go over 89. it does mean the fan are on half the time. There still isnt enough forced air going into the radiators. a couple of vanes/paddles under the trike to direct air up might be the go.

also strengthened the tow bar. had to do this before we could go camping etc. van ball weight is around 35-40kgms and it shouldnt go over a pultry 30 kgms. I dreamt of the van being detached.

And Bennie you were right- there is not many engines with that rumble and note. love it!

Watch the vid fellas, there aint many puddy tats that'll be able to catch this Tweety Bird :D

Sounds pretty neat, looks great, hangs onto 2nd gear for a while don't she?

Must be one of the quickest EA81's off the mark, in no time tweety is a blurr

what is with the magic text ? as my mouse rolls over it, turns to red !

Good to see a project start and finish pretty quickly compared to some of ours

I've got no idea how that text turns red. Computers- somethings will always be a mystery!

Second gear is a little longer in ratio to the Leone 2nd gear in its three speed auto. I've calculated the speed at 4800 rpm (max power) and come up with around 125 kph. First gear at around 70kph. Rear tyres are 275/60/r15 giving it long legs but with only 3 speeds and under 600 kgms this gives great performance from such a simplistic engine.

We rode to Shepparton yesterday 45 min drive. Could wipe the smile off my face. The engine rumble, it terms of smoothness is compared to a conventional in line 4 and the torque- it was my gamble but it is just superb Steptoe.

Economy first tank is 25 mpg or 11L/100kms but that included a lot of idling , revving and testing. up from the 13L/100kms I got with the VW. I expect 10 or lower as time goes by after the tune up when that second throat works correctly

The overall feeling? remember when you had your first date? I do...and I was on a promise! ......

That is a very nice ride, so jealous  I bet you'll be even happier when you have the secondary on the weber working properly.

Steptoe that red text thing happens whenever you put text directly after a video link on this forum. It turns all the text into a link.

yeh silverbullet. there are some things that I prefer not to tinker with. besides the money saved on doing this project by myself (with forum helpers) surely a few dollars on a good mechanic and dyno is an investment. might as well get the tappets done, its got EI so no points, timing for optimum performance and carbie.

Daniel from VW prerformance centre Croydon) last time I heard, was putting a wRX in a kombi. He is the man! They are one of the very few shops that regularly get you from the waiting room to tell you what's going on, tell you what they will do to fix it and dont charge the earth. Very friendly and know what they are doing.

Hope I can help you guys out someday.....maybe advice on women (being so experienced and all lol)...or something!! ;) eg I got married again last May. The last lady I was with for 10 years. after much hounding about getting a trike she declared "its either me or the trike". wrong thing to say to Tweety! trike won! my newest wife was mates with me for 25 years. she loves the trike.

ok Andy

I used to fly model aircraft radio control. Had some anxiety at the period and ADHD. Result? I used to design and fly my own planes from Batplanes with swing wings to super futuristic planes. Trouble was I crashed them regularly- reason- so anxious I always forgot to check things before take off. Elevators in reverse etc.

Cost me plenty of money.

The ex sat down one day to discuss this.

Her- "how much money do you think it has cost you on your hobby in the last 7 years"?

Me- "About $11,000"

She said "So are you proud of that amount of waste"?

Me- "not near as proud as you are about smoking $35,000 worth of cigarettes. At least I've got some engines and radio sets to show for it".

She - "oh, it wouldnt be that much"

Me- "one carton a week at $80, $4000 a year, $28,000 7 years.

She- "thats 7 thousand less than what you said"

Me- "yeh, I've saved that 7 grand to pay for the lung transplant and oxygen bottles"....

That was my last woman. But my first wife was a challenge.

I arrived home at Yea after my usual 90 minute drive over the mountains to Melbourne in my old clapped out Ford Zephyr.Up at 5am home at 7pm pick and shovel work. The car needed fiddling and was running crap. I went inside and told her I needed about an hour to work on the car (she was a stay at home mum). I asked her about dinner.

She- "what would you like"

Me- "anything really, baked beans, eggs or sausages, something easy"

I returned to the garage. An hour later I finished and went inside Wife watching TV

Me- "so what happened to my dinner"

She- "I asked you what you wanted, I didnt say I was going to cook it"

So I fumed inside and waited. Two months later

She- My birthday is coming up darling....I'd love a guitar"

Me- "I'll find you one so you can fill in your day while I'm at work and the kids are at school"

Birthday comes. She eagerly waiting for her guitar...

Me- "happy birthday here is your present" I show her a copy of a telstra yellow pages guitars for sale

She- "so where's my guitar"?

Me- its in the shop in Melbourne...I told you I'd find a guitar- I didnt say I'd buy it"!!!

after all that - you got married again !!

I can guess a few things about the new woman:

1. new woman likes the trike - we know that
2. new woman don't smoke
3. new woman will actually serve you your dinner in the shed
4. new woman - she come with a warranty?
