Theres no impact zone, in a crash your legs will be trapped if you dont die.
Please Explain How that is safe.

Now this car, what cars do you have at the moment? What does your wife drive? Are you getting rid of any when you buy this one?

Personally if it were my family (although I don't have kids... yet) I would go for the safest possible car. And if your looking for a Subie go a Forester or Outback, what ever suits your needs best. Both great, reliable cars and there are still aspects of the old subies within them.
But thats just my 2cents worth.

Look up crash tests for the smart car, they put alot of design and effort into directing the energy around the passenger capsule, since they don't have any crush zone.Brumby Kid wrote:Not against a 4wd or a lifted subie with bull bar.

Will do Sam. Dan, if your wife is going to have a wagon or anything with a back seat (Baby capsule) then go the ute. You will need a car for the kid, then the other can be whatever. All the new Subies are an ANCAP 5 star safety rating (from about 06 onwards?)

Thats coz the smart car has an electric motor (cant stall). Yeah defs go a ute!
Just what do you want / can afford. Baja or brumby
Baja would be a newish car that you dont do anything to (except maybe mph to kph?)
A brumby would be a tinker er / you would probs have to do work to it.

Ok ok, plz dont buy one. 5:30 they say it would survive, the passengers wouldn't.

I didnt hear the safety rating of the smart car but the 2nd car was only 3*...i would really strongly suggest you only look at 5* rated cars...i think the Liberty is 5*.
If a well designed midget car can survive that, imagine how a well designed 5* medium size car like a Liberty would go....
To give you an idea of how good ABS & ASC are they are now compulsory on ALL new cars sold in Oz...its not just a gimmick...they are bloody brilliant!
I understand what you're saying bout people relying on it too much but i think its just too good to ignore.
Good luck with choosing. You're right, its way harder than choosing tyres lol

Yeah nobody can survive after a certain speed, but I did say the smart was surprising in it's safety, not necessarily really safe, but it is surprising.
Anyway back on topic, you're gonna need a wagon or ute to tow around all your kids hobbies. Like go-karts, dirt bikes maybe

Remember with kids, comes prams, portable cots, bags of nappies and spare clothes.
We have an Outback, and a Foz with a child seat in each. There are times when I wish I had a Brumby instead, but the comfort and the safety of the Outback means more for me, especially on long trips, so I also own a box trailer

Yeah if you have two cars for baby stuff (merc n foz) Have a "you" car. A car for what you want, which sounds like a tinkerer or a baja.
