Ea81 engine rebuilder in Adelaide????
Can anyone suggest a motor rebuilder in Adelaide who's good with the Subaru motors? And roughly how much do you think it'll set me back to have an e81 freshened up???
Cheers

No sure too well about SA but isn't Steve from Rising Sun the man to see?
You know you are getting old when the candles on your birthday cake start to cost more than the cake itself.

i dont think we mentioned upgrades this time? lols
nah steve at rising sun, near gepps cross is the subaru guy, does services and will be able to tell you whats up, might even have a 81 for you just to throw in.
But i dont think he does rebuilds so yeah, not really worth the time for a lot of people.
silver bullet rebuilt his 81 and as were all in SA he might have the time to rebuild yours as well.

Noooo way I'm not touching anyone else's engine after what happened to minespike wrote: talk to silverbullet, maybe he has the time to rebuild yours

Brumby91, if Steve doesn't do rebuilds you might have more luck with API engines at Lonsdale. Completely the other side of the city from Steve though. Give them a call and ask if they can rebuild an EA81.
Will it ever end!?

Awww... Com'on silverbullet!! This time round you can still drive your subi and not be under pressure, plus someone else is paying for the partsSilverbullet wrote:Noooo way I'm not touching anyone else's engine after what happened to mine

Yes I know that's the wrong way to go about it, just because someone else is paying for it I'm sure you'll feel even more responsible IF something were to go amiss in the run-in phase.
Couldn't help myself Sb...

the thing is having a car on the road when your rebuilding the engine. hence why you get a wrecker motor in while your waiting

Thanks for the offer, ....... if only i had time, im a 24-7 shift worker... makes it hard, besides, if i start pulling motors out , the handbrake ( Missus) gets a little cranky, lol
If i was the other the country i would offer to do it! They're pretty easy to do, i have done a couple and have 2 EA81 T waiting in the back back shed to be done when i get the time! :P

Matt , thankyou for the offer, very kind of you!Matt wrote:And second that i can help over the phone or what not, Give it a crack but it does sound like a possible exhaust leak to me? It using oil or water?
doesnt use oil or water, and i have just replaced the exhaust with a new one, in fact had to get them to put heli coils in where the original studs had snapped.. so its all tight.... its kinda weird Matt, around the 2600rpm mark i swear it sounds a little louder.
i even went so far as to plug the Air thingy ( pollution control) down the passenger side of motor, as it was just resignating the air sound up through the Air cleaner! dont know if thats a good thing to do , but i want to quiet this thing down, dont want to get a canary on it
id be happy to take someone here in adelaide ( WHO really does know their Motors) so they can have a listen!

Took your advice ( thank you ) and before I say anymore, I agree.. Steve is a nice guy, he was busy this morning but made time to listen to me, and actually went out of his way to help me, without expecting anything.. That said, spike wrote:steve at rising sun, job done.............
Turns out it's my Y piece exhaust and Cat ( as I only had the new exhaust replaced from cat back, with helicoils on the 'headers') , so if I get rid of that, bobs your uncle... No more VW sound at higher RPM. he even said my 81 sounded fine, no probs with it, don't touch it!
What a relief!!!!
