The spider or hi-rise intake was fitted to MPFI and MPFI 1987.5 onwards Vortex's/XT's

It flows better than the regular EA82 MPFI manifold.

A couple of images I found on Google

Better flow, bigger plenum, cooler intake temps as the coolant passages dont flow through the entire manifold in the spider.

And it is easier to fit a top mount intercooler and a GC8 Front mount kit :D

sub4 in NZ made custom for a price, mainly for aviation, ran their engines with their heads and rocker covers in their blue Brumby.

Got the rally kit Subaru sold ? Safari in your data banks yet?

there is very little information on SUB4. ive been chasing down the guy who actually made them, maybe i can buy the castings =P

i havent found any information on the safari kit. Ive seen 1 photo, talked to the people who made it (possum motorsport in NZ apparently) but apart from being told it was a custom job some guy did for the event thats all ive heard.

I was told it was made to increase the power but not reduce the reliability as much as the turbo. To win you must finish, stuck on the side of the track with a destroyed motor doesnt work.

A Kiwi rally fabricator for Neal Bates was telling me (ten years ago) about the rally kit for EA81's, thought Subaru sold the kit - in NZ anyway - different manifold to take down draught directly over the inlet ports - so would shift alternator a little I'd think

yeah the photos were twin downdrafts straight over the heads. Alternator between them. I cant find any reference to it being sold just that it was made by a team and only 1 example existed with that one photo
