Sump guard for new 2011 Forester X
G'day all
New to this forum and just had a 5mm alloy sump guard made up from scratch by Scorpion 4x4 in Albion, Brisbane for $250. Looks pretty beefy and he did a great job as the original plastic underbody shroud was about as durable as cheese cloth. Only had the Forester for a few months now and loving it...Scorpion can be reached on (07) 32624077 ask for Dale

Cool. I just bought a Subaxtreme one for my 01 Forester for nearly double the price you paid. Reason being I busted my 3mm alloy one, paid a fortune to get my sump of the engine reapired and now want some decent engine protection.
Also the Subaxtreme ones are airbag compliant which made my insurance company happy.
Do you plan on doing much offroading in the car?
The picture isn't working for me.

I wonder if "airbag compliant" means less durable?taza wrote:Cool. I just bought a Subaxtreme one for my 01 Forester for nearly double the price you paid. Reason being I busted my 3mm alloy one, paid a fortune to get my sump of the engine reapired and now want some decent engine protection.

Scorpion Subaru have the same (or really REALLY similar) sump guard as subaxtreme on their website. I'm guessing a 3rd party is having em made at the foundry & selling em thru distributors like these guys.
If only we could find the manufacturer we could cut out the middle man & save some $$$

Scorpion Subaru is Subaxtreme. Well Subaxtreme bought the rights for the sumpguards and bars. Scorpion only doesn't do much anymore to what I am aware of.
I was just worried my insurance company would not pay out if I had an accident and for some reason my airbags didn't go off and they said it was due to the sump guard. Otherwise I would have a steel sump guard.
Considering my sumpguard (Subaxtreme cast alloy) one is 6 or 7mm thick I think it will be stong enough unless it gets a sold hit. But scrapping would be fine.

Hey Taza
Have attached photo as a smaller JPG now rather than a 4Mb Picasa file so might work now. Off to Fraser in Jan 2012 hence the sump guard. Keen on a 2" lift as well...anyone in Brisbane doing these for 2011 Foresters? Also what is the biggest AT tyre that can legally be put on a Forester?

Looks good mate. Can't wait to see a heap of photos and videos of Fraser island when you get back. I find all the stuff I see on Youtube of people are Faser is really good. I find its really fascinating.
Let us now how it performs there.
The biggests you could get on a 3rd gen would be 215/70R16 if you have 16" rims. They are pretty big tyres, 29" if im not mistaken but there would be some rubbing without lift.
If you email Dave on here about the lift kit im sure he could help you out.

Apparently there is "Scorpion Off Road Products" in Albion :
http://www.scorpionproducts.com.au/1.html
They only do bars & sump guards.
Then "Scorpion Subaru" in Capalaba :
http://scorpionsubaru.com
Also "SubaXtreme" :
http://www.subaxtreme.com.au
Also "Crossbred Performance" :
http://crossbredperformance.com
Scorpion Offroad is def independant but i dont know bout the others. When i called Scorpion Subaru for a price on a sump guard & lift kit they were very quick to suggest SubaXtreme.
I was surprised to be told they dont do lift kits anymore, & was very reluctant to discuss why. In fact he even said he wasnt aware of any1 who still did em!
I'l be calling SubaXtreme next...see what they have to say

I believe that they had a pretty serious legal battle when a client of theirs wrote off their subi that had a crazy lift kit installed by them. I don't know the details as this is probably 4th or 5th hand information...nachaluva wrote:I was surprised to be told they dont do lift kits anymore, & was very reluctant to discuss why. Crossbred will be able to sort something out for you as we discussed last weekend.
Cheers

If scorpion AWD were the crew that made the scorpion rims for the L's and lift kits then I'm pretty sure it was them. When I say crazy lift I mean a 6 inch kit at the owner's request. I don't doubt that they make a quality kit regardless of size and if I've come across as dissing them it was unintentional!vincentvega wrote:haha what is with all the rumours about scorpion AWD.
they never installed "crazy" lift kits. Mike sold one of the best quality kits around. 50mm strut tops, 40mm blocks everywhere else.
From what I heard this fella who requested the lift had a stack and probably wasn't covered with insurance hence he went for the manufacture/installer of the lift that was most likely blamed as the cause of the stack whether it was or not. Production seemed to shut down during a legal battle and now they won't do lift kits anymore.
Whether this is all true or not - I still reckon that if you purchase a product such as an oversized lift, you understand the changes to the vehicle this makes and that your "contract of responsibility" from the installer ceases to exist after you roll out the door and the warranty period expires. Going back to sue the installer or producer of the kit is not the way forward people! It frustrates me and is the reason why laws are getting tighter when they don't necessarily have to.
It's all a blame game. Sorry to have gone off topic VV in the reply to you, and off topic to the OP.
Cheers
Bennie
thats the impression i got. That there was a legal drama.
I think they were bit silly doing a 6' lift but the bloke has to take responsibility for his own actions! He asked for 6" lift, got a 6" lift, was prob doing something silly & just wants others to take responsibility for his actions & hurts a good business & the rest of us in the process
