qq 5speed 2wd how much power

Post by spike » Mon Aug 22, 2011 8:38 pm

got a 2wd 5 speed off shufbag, thinking about what to do with it, might as well put it behind a vn V6 or a toyota 16v, excel sprint motor

anyway, does anyone know how much paper i can put though the box before it goes boom??
not worried about the CVs just yet, ill have to polish them and over size them. And then do some other little things if it still doesnt go more

Vortexs came with a 5 speed box 2wd on a turbo motor RSR has one that runs nicely.

well turbo 2wd will give me about 200 hp limit
does anyone know if the 2WD and the 4WD are essentially the same?

This is all good Jules, but the advantage the vortex has for gearbox longivity is that it can pick up the front wheels and allow wheel spin if there are too many berries trying to be put down at once.

Pretty much - except the input shaft is a different size - smaller for the NA gearboxes at least. I've not seen a turbo gearbox's input shaft so can't tell you much about the size. The internals are basically the same just without the 4wd rear end in there and the low range above the diff on the input shaft.

I don't know how much you could put through it, the gearbox's life might come down to the amount of wear it already has and how you treat it with a powerful setup like that...

ill strap it all together and see how it goes, if the first one blows up ill keep replacing them till i cant find any more =D and after all that i might just adapt it to a Ej box, or modify it so it wont break.

im also going to try and race modifying cvs, like they do/did for 930s before they went to CM

I forgot to put in there that I wrote my last post thinking you were going to mid mount the engine and thus have a rear wheel drive buggy thing... This means the rear wheels will automatically have access to more traction off the line as the weight of the vehicle gets thrown rearwards.

What you might find is that you'll mash 1st or 2nd before you break a CV...

A custom gearbox would be expensive but could save you gearboxes in the long run. Hit up alldrivesuparoo.com.au I think they are, they do gearboxes and I'm sure you could get some RA spec 1st and 2nd gearsets installed to help out with the strength of the internals - again expensive though and I'm sure this is what you're trying to avoid!

Give it a go and see what happens - and have another box on standby!

Cheers

pretty much trying to keep it cheap, and if i keep blowing boxes and end up having to buy them well yeah i will probably move to an Ej of custom box or scrap the whole thing. right now i have 2 or 3 2wd boxes and there are a lot around the place, very few people want to go from 4wd to 2wd
