original radiator caps on 20 year old Subies!

Post by steptoe » Fri Jul 15, 2011 3:49 pm

How many of us are still proud that their near 20 year old Subie is still running its original or original/genuine looking radiator cap?

Never been surprised as to how many cars get around ten, 15 and 20 or more years on an original to find they are running a bit warm or overheating.Seen a lot of them causing grief in a workshop over last 25 years - even tricks mecanics lookin' for something BIG

The one on my Vortex, that turned 24 back in April, looks to have had an original (I'd include a pic but have developed practice of throwing them to the sht'ouse).

If it not original it is a genuine replacement but starting to question that - in another thread.

$9.99 for an Oz made cap as a replacement for the cap that took 15 psi then deflated to zip on the tester. new cap also tested and sat beautifully on 13 psi - where it is meant to. Another supplier sells 'em for 12.99 same thing - still cheap considering.

I had a collection of used rad caps taking up space, must have tossed at least six when decided used was no good.

A rather valid point, something so simple is very easily overlooked.
