Post by guyph_01 » Thu May 19, 2011 11:44 am

Hi guys,

I just wanted to have some info from those who have done this conversion and would like to know how and where did you get to fit your rear hand brake cable?

Pics would be great:)

Thx

Between the front seats. Per the Crossbred instructions. I don't have a copy of the instructions anymore but it's straight forward anyway.
They recommend using a handbrake lever from a Magna. I actually have a suitable one spare somewhere I think.
You just bolt it in place of the old lever, but you need to use a few nuts and bolts and spacers to get it to sit right and work with your centre console (Crossbred supply the exact right nuts, bolts and spacers with their kit but I'm sure you can figure something out).
Need to cut two slits in the tunnel just behind the console for the cables to pass through - the Lib cables should already have the rubber grometts on them.
Basically have a look under the carpet of a Lib and you can see how it needs to go.

I want to suit a RS lib hand brake, the nice leather stitched one:) I'll have to drill holes in the tunnel for it then. I have figured it out a bit but I just wanted to gather as much info as I can to be sure to only cut/drill the required amount of holes:)

Yer that's a little more custom then, I don't think anyone would have done that because the kit says to use a Magna lever and supplies the required bits to make that fit. In your case I'd just drill the same amount of holes as you have bolts that need to go in, unless you can re-use an existing hole. Just depends how you need to position it to make it work with the console. Maybe you could get a complete RS console to fit somehow.

I got custom cables made up using the L series handle end with the Liberty other end from a cable guy.

3.5m long each though so they go forward & then loop around over the top of the gearbox & back down the transmission tunnel.
The interior looks completely factory.

Cool, but i've use a gen2 center console. I'll just wait and bolt the rear in first, then run the cables and figure out where it needs to be cut:)
Thx

Can't wait lol:twisted:

Ok so i've given this a bit of thought. Would i be able to install the cable starting by reverse???

What i mean is, Figure out where the Gen2 lib center console is going to sit, from this figure out where the Lib hand brake needs to be bolted to match the center console hand brake opening.

Once the hand brake lever is bolted, attached the cables, figure where the bracket that secures them in place need to be bolted, cut hole in the tunnel and run the cables under the car to the rear.

Would that work?

I figured it they are too long, i just make them take a longer way under the car.
I don't think and hope they won't be too short:)

Also, the adjustment on the clutch cable, should i set it back to around the middle of the adjustment? just in case it been fully adjusted?

Thx:)

Its just a can't wait, and i want to do something:D
