I've done a bit of a search but it would take for ever....I have a "slight" chance of getting hold of a RX box & rear diff so a couple of questions.

Is this box constant awd like the hi/low Liberty box or part time fwd like the L series box

Will the RX 1.56 low range fit in the Lib hi/low box if I want to put it in.

Will the locking center diff fit on the rear of the hi/low Lib box without any mods if I decide to leave the 1.19 gears in there & will it remain constant awd or will I lose rear drive when the lock is disconnected.

Are the rear locking diffs from the RX as strong as the Lib/WRX ones, it'll be getting a 4.44 cw & p (yes I know the holes are a different size for the bolts.

I'm off to Asia for 3 - 6 months next Sat night so nothing will be happening till after I get back. :mrgreen:

I believe the RX turbo gearboxes were PT4wd and had the same low range as the liberty gearbox - but I could be wrong there.

There are mods that need to be done to fit the L series low range in a liberty gearbox - read here

If you manage to get the L series AWD locking centre gearbox the only way to fit this to your liberty is to re-case it with an EJ set of front casings then have custom prop shaft, gearbox crossmember/mounts and gear lever made up. The other way to do it is run with an adaptor plate setup like a lot of ppl do with the EJ conversion in L series.
So basically the locking centre diff found in the L AWD gearboxes is not a direct bolt straight on the back of a stock EJ gearbox conversion due to the different design of the centre diff and the housing - the pinion shaft at the very least has to go with the locking centre diff. This will remain AWD but you will lose the LSD feature of the EJ's centre diff.

I presume the "rear locking diffs" is actually a clutch pack LSD? It should be as strong - but you'll have to service it regularly to keep it working properly as the clutch packs will wear out. This is where I believe the viscous LSD's have an advantage if used primarily on the black top.

Sounds like one of those too hard basket jobs, I'll just keep looking for a 12kg center diff.
