MY GLF dash in MY DL

I know this was talked about on the old forums, just searched here and I can't find anything on it.
I've now decided to wreck my beloved coupe despite the strong support for keeping it, sorry. I'm thinking about transplanting the GLF dash into my wagon, amongst other things, and I want to know how difficult it will be. I'm assuming at the moment it will be too much trouble but I thought I'd ask first.

Buy a touring wagon... it's easier.

Sorry to hear your having to end the life of the narly coupe ..

But thats life
The dash could be a plug and go ..subi like a lot of manufactors multi plugged there harnesses to do model changes.

There was year to year changes so may require some cut/shut of the wiring in the dash. My very first sube copped a 82GLF dash and was an 83 Sportswagon itself. Everything ended up working except for one weird little problem that the windscreen wipers would only work when the headlights were on - kinda like a built in safety feature

So was it mostly plug and play? Not that I'm scared of a bit of soldering / cutting and shutting, just weighing up my options.

It's an 82 GLF5 and an 82 DL, so hopefully there aren't a heap of differences. I will have to get a wiper switch off a Touring Wagon, as I want intermittent wipers as well as a rear wiper.

the most wireing changes hapend between 82 and 83

my 83 glf dash plugged straight in to a 92 brumby
only wireing change was to do with the auto choke and engine revolution sensor

I take it dash removal on an MY requires windscreen removal? I removed an L dash once and I seem to remember it had the screen out when I did it, can't remember if it's necessary or not.

I removed an L series dash recently. Before doing that I removed the entire front half of the car from the back half.

(although this may have been unnecessary).

The screen can stay where it is. Fiddly but do-able.

MY-STI just swapped mine for me, it's do-able, you will need some 90 degree phillips head screwdrivers to do it with the windscreen in.

I taken out a MY dash without taking out the window as well its time consuming but do able.

I converted the digital dash to analogue 6 gauge dash. The car was an 83' coupe with digital dash and the other 6 gauges came from an 82' coupe. Luckily I kept the looms in dash and the engine bay. Wiring and parts different relating to blinkers/hazard and the headlights between the 2 models.
Headlight relay located next to fuseable links in 82' model and next to fuse box in the 83' model.
Blinker and hazard lights 82' model uses 2 flasher units and the 83' model has one unit for both.
Needed the back loom for the blinkers but have sorted it out to work temporarily.
