Not 100% sure of the clamping pressure but suits an EJ25 without any probs.. also not strong enough to break gearboxes cause like you know, it's cheaper to replace clutches than gearboxes

I used the Clutch Industries RPM397N kit on my L series BUT both the white and my bro's red brumby got the clutch from scott. when comparing I must say that mine slips a lot more under load, (e.g pulling a trailer with a Liberty on it or pulling a wreak upside down to remove the drive train or when seriously bogged in the sand= bad clutch smell) And noticed that the brumby's don't when (pulling a wreak upside down to remove the drive train or when seriously bogged, Then never pulled a trailer with a lib:p)
Ohhhh and I shattered the clutch disk from that kit:D
Maybe its just my 'ken block' driving style, Lol hahahahaha
And with my new engine i'd rather get him to make a custom one:)
Is he just moving or closing down:s?

Hmmm yeah i was pretty set on the custom job but just want to get the conversion done, what did the clutch industries one cost you? if you dont mind me asking.
Does anyone know if there is anywhere else that will do the custom job?
Yeah I think alot of it comes down to driving style. I'm sure an off-the-shelf product ("heavy duty" - I think they are maybe 1000pounds? Not sure) could be made to last, but I think to get the actual clamping pressure to ensure less slipping under heavy load, when a torque-meister EJ is involved, you can only really go custom springs and spring angle with a place like Autoclutch. These setups still have plenty of give as they still use a totally standard organic clutch disc (nothing like a brass button or puck clutch!) so no problem with worrying about smashing the gearbox really - although once again, with the right driving style I suppose anything is possible!
All comes down to mechanical sympathy really - if you drive an L series you need it - there is always a massive weak point, usually more than one haha.
Unfortunately I have only experience with getting Autoclutch to make these, but I'm sure a quick ring-around might reveal other places that can do this, although I'm lead to beleive Autoclutch are the gurus when it comes to this in WA.

i ran even more than 2200pounds on my ej20turbo, i think it was closer to 3000pounds. I will post up pics when i get a chance.
This was a HD aftermarket l-series pressure plate modded with a double layer of fingers and a custom made beafier HD organic plate.
never slipped on ej20turbo running 17psi.
all done by autoclutch in ozzie park.

Ok.. I spoke with Scott (AutoClutch) today and he is just moving all his stuff to his home.. which I'm happy about as it's closer to me 
He is in the process of getting 3 phase power put to his shed but he can still do any work required.. just call him on 9244 4496 and wait online and it will transfer to his mobile.

When Scott was doing my clutch he showed me the std n/a Liberty clutch was 2,000lb the pre 08 WRX was 2,500 and the post 08 which I have (with a bit of difficulty & a cable) is 3,000lb, I had to get a special ring laser cut to fit the flywheel so I had an extra 5 cut which I gave Scott but you'd need to find the later push hydraulic clutch from a post 08 WRX to get 3,000 clamping pressure.
He showed me a new hd WRX 3 button brass Cusco clutch & that was a laughable 2,200lb
When fitting mine we tried everything to get the hydraulic slave to work but couldn't get the throw right so ended up giving up & throwing the old cable clutch in & fingers crossed it's great so far.
Must admit it still got a bit stinky up a Two Rocks the other week but the car was well stuck & really only got a small whiff.
He showed me a new hd WRX 3 button brass Cusco clutch & that was a laughable 2,200lb

So Tom, is making the custom clutch for the cable style boxes easier that the hydro stuff??? I'll have to read that again.
I think i paid around 350 for my HD cluch but then i didn't know all the cheap connections to get parts from:D

No WRX's have Push clutches (to my knowledge). Pretty sure all Turbo EJ Subaru's are Pull setups which work quite differently so aren't really applicable in this particular thread.
Also remember that Hydraulic vs Cable is to do with how the clutch pedal is connected and really has nothing to do with the clutch itself.
- Push type, operated with a cable (MY, L series, Early N/A Liberty - maybe some n/a imprezas, not sure on that one)
- Push type, operated with a Hydraulic master and slave cylinder (Some models of Outback and Forester, maybe more not sure)
- Pull type, operated with a Hydraulic master and slave cylinder (WRX's, RS Turbo Liberty/Legacy, GTB etc - EJ turbo's basically)

WEll all i want to figure out is Would a cable or hydro system easier to fit on my vortex? I've got a single range AWD cable push type box at the moment and the above answer will determine if i sell it or hold on to it.
I guess being a vortex its got the same firewall as an l. Alex, did you have cable or hydrolic system on yours?

Alex always had a standard EA82 gearbox in his car, with the standard cable on it.
Is the gearbox you are intending to put in the Vortex operated with a clutch cable? If it is then you have to use a clutch cable with it, which will be piss easy of course (because your vortex is setup for cable already), especially if it's an EA82 gearbox - then of course everything will just bolt straight in. If it's an EJ cable gearbox then I guess the cable would need to be adapted to work with the L series clutch pedal but shouldn't be too hard.
If it's operated with a hydraulic system then that's not too much of a biggy either. I've fitted hydraulic clutch master cylinders to two L series successfully (one was a push system, one was a pull - both just as easy as each other). It's not that hard. Master cylinder mounts through the hole in the firewall your speedo cable currently goes through (speedo cable needs to relocate to another hole lower down). An extra hole for one of the bolts needs to be drilled. A bracket needs to be either bolted or welded to your standard clutch pedal to offset it approx 1 inch to the left with a hole drilled in it. Allignment is very important, it has to be just right, but if done correctly it works great.
