Service Intervals

Post by primo27 » Sun Feb 27, 2011 4:28 pm

Hi guys

I have a question regarding services. I bought an 06 Liberty last week. Before i purchased it i checked the service history and it all looked good. Today i was having a browse through the books and noticed that the service history wasnt up to date. the car was serviced every 15000 km which is fine but instead of every 6 months it was done every 12. I have heard that these engines need to be serviced regularly so just wondering if 12 months is ok.

Great addition mate! GT?

IMHO for my personal vehicle, 15k is alot too big a
service interval, not just for the oil, but for
an inspection of the vehicle.

Though there are plenty of Lubricants that can do the
distance but I don't recommend it for wear and
longevity.

I do mine every 5k. Because I'm fastidious about my cars
and plan to keep them forever because I cannot sell anything!

At a minimum I recommend 10k with fully synthetic fluids.

More details on your car would help too

Cheers,
S

The book should say 12.5k km or 6 months - so no idea where that 15k km's the previous owner was doing, as above that's too many km's between oil changes.
And as above, I do mine and my wife's at 10k km's and use full syn oil (0w40 in mine, 5w30 in her), plus a general look over whenever I remember.

15,000kms is a bit too long IMO but it depends on how and what the car is getting used for. If it's under load a lot (towing or hills work) then I would be doing the oil changes (at the least) at every 10,000kms but make sure check/service the rest of the car, between 6 and 12 months intervals.

I personally change mine every 5,000ks but I'm lucky to have a hoist and a workshop to play in.

Service intervals

Post by primo27 » Mon Feb 28, 2011 6:11 pm

Thanks guys. I appreciate your help

The car is an 06 Liberty 3.0R. Its a really nice car and after coming from a Clubsport VX I prefer the subaru. Not for power but the way it drives doesnt compare.

I was a bit concerned about the service intervals, 12.5 k is the strandard and obviously the less km's between the better.

My main concern was the 6 months. I was worried that something maybe happen to the oil if you wait 12 but then again most people service between 6 -12 months so cant see why Subaru insist on 6 months. Maybe something to do with extra money to be made on services. Theres no towbar so thats a good thing in a way

Its auto, The clubsport was manual and after 6 years of manual driving i couldnt get another one. Even though the subaru gearbox is much better than Holdens.

I am not planning any mods mate. The car is just a nice car with all the extras and im happy with the 3.0 litre engine. Its got more go than I thought it would have. Im trying to upload some pics from the iphone but cant. I will have to take some photos with the digital camera this week

One mod you really should do is a bigger rear sway bar (whiteline.com.au) - will make the car that much better to drive.
