Info on Adaptor Plate Needed

It’s a Subaru Leone 91 model with an EA82 motor. I would like to change the EA82 to a 96 Wrx Motor EJ20G. The transmission is manual its 4wd selectable that is 4wd high and 4wd low then 2wd, clutch plates size 9” (inch). Do I require an adapter plate? anyone done it before pics e.t.c something to help me out.

Yes I've done it before, however I'd really suggest NOT using the part time 4WD gearbox - buying a front cut and using the gearbox that came with the engine will provide a better solution.

If you do decide to go down the adapter-plate route, Steve from Rising Sun can make you up the Adpater Plate and Flywheel to suit. You'd use the clutch to match the gearbox.

Subarino is a member on these boards, that is basically a pictorial rundown on his way of mating an EJ22 motor to the L series gearbox. The EJ20G has the same bellhousing as the EJ22, so that adaptor plate will be the same. Thickness of the plate is 12mm I think.

As for the clutch, you'll want to run a custom one. I'm not exactly sure where, but I've heard of a combination of clutch parts to use the EJ20G stock flywheel and the stock input shaft of the L series gearbox. Personally I feel redrilling the L series flywheel to suit the EJ boss is a bit hairy, and I certainly wouldn't do it on a turbo motor. Plus there's no way any readily available L series clutch could stand up to the torque or the RPM of an EJ turbo.
