Hammertone on MY interior trim restore

Post by steptoe » Sun Jan 23, 2011 8:39 pm

Thought I should share my trim restoration I did twelve years ago on my 84 BRum. Those door open plastic bits and steering columns that decay and crumble, I hit 'em with hammertone spray in gunmetal grey. The decay has been preserved and stopped in its tracks. A dozen years later still good as....

Pics ?
Sounds like a good idea and I think it would look pretty good but have to see the result first.

I take it this is a special spray?

I restored most of the interior with a can of touch up paint in tan from bunnings :D, exact same colour as the interior, works perfect apart from the boot area is still pretty easy to scratch. Am yet to attend to the ceiling though..

Hey that's really interesting, I was looking for a decent product I could use on my interior, I'd read alot about vinyl and plastic dyes (not paint) in aerosol cans, but they were expensive.
How much interior can you coat with the Hammertone stuff? and do you need multiple coats?
Will it ever end!?

$15 spray can was more than enough. I only did the surrounds of the door opener/lock handle/button and the steering column plastics, one nice thick coat I'd say, did not think anyone would ask that question. They were the only items shot by the sun apart from the dash pad - that was finished, ended up replacing that.

Yeah I only asked because for the dye they said you need 4-5 coats or something silly :???:

there you go, imageshack changed its presentation method to me midway and dd not get usual choice of links etc right hand lower corner of screen

As you can see the interior trim I coated once? with a hammer tone style of epoxy enamel paint in 1998. 12 years of rough and tumble later bits have chipped off , but tell you what the decayed plastic bitten by UV has been best preserved underneath to give years more of service than crumble before my eyes.
