97' Impreza GX FWD to AWD Conversion

Post by azzafreddy » Wed Dec 01, 2010 12:10 am

i own a 1997 Subaru Impreza GX 1.6 Litre FWD automatic, i am looking at doing a FWD to AWD Conversion & would like to know the best way to go about it, a couple of questions i'd like to know is

1. can i source all the parts & do this at home one weekend or is it a much bigger project then that?
2. how much am i looking at to source all the parts & get it all done?
3. is it worth selling my car & buying a 2.0 AWD?

also if someone who has experienced this work before could explain in a little bit of detail the kind of work i'd be looking at doing that would be great..

thanks.. :)

Unless your mechanically minded - you CAN do it in a weekend but it wont be 100% completed in a weekend.
Good if you have a donor car ready aside & have parts etc.

Quick answer - option 3 is way to go, unless you totally love your EJ16 Impreza! and your better off getting EJ20. I know at the end of the day with EJ16 is powerless to run AWD gear in.

Cheers
