1.8 Mpfi N/A vortex Engine codes Help...

Post by guyph_01 » Wed Nov 24, 2010 9:50 pm

Hi guys,

So I just got everything bolted back on the engine with new plugs, freshly clean and tested injectors.

I started the car but its shacks a lot and feels like its running on 3 cyl. spark is good on all 4. Car also has the ECS "check engine" light constantly on. How do i check for codes??

I found the ECU in the boot and connected the two green wires but the fuel pump pulses and the light stays constantly on.

Plz help:)

Ok so thx to H-Top i figured how to test for codes.

its basically connect the green plugs, not the black plugs,
under your rear right speaker in the boot of
a vortex.
There is a little red LED light u can see through
a small round cutout in the ECU itself.
connect them and turn the car on.

I'm getting code 33 and 12???

Anyone know what they mean?
Thx

Thx toonga.
My vortex is a 86.

Ok so how can I fix 33 Coolant sensor or circuit and 12 Starter switch off.
What are they?

Is the coolant sensor the one for the fan or the one for the gauge?

And why would the car run rough?

a blown head gasket :)

Guy if you do use chemiweld make sure all the coolant is flushed out.

I remove the thermostat as well while Ive got chemiweld in the engine as it has been known to weld the thermostat closed.

Coolant sensor is on the waterpipe/manifold, it's a green 2 pin sensor. As you know I'm at work otherwise I would post a pic :(

Starter switch is either your ignition barrel or the ignition relay that is at fault. I wouldn't stress about that fault.. it really doesn't affect the engine.

And yes.. a blown head gasket would make it run rough :( I would follow the instructions on the bottle of Chem-i-weld.. make sure you use the 'Boss' brand only.. buy it from Repco or Supercheap. This brand will not block your cooling system but it is always best to drain out after the symtoms (of the blown gasket) have all gone.
