Our "Grey car" (MY wagon, big photos)

Post by Silverbullet » Tue Nov 16, 2010 8:36 pm

Hey everyone, we were just talking about the old car the other day, when dad said there are some old photos of it when it was brand new (81') and a few pics from various trips. So after much digging in the depths of the family photo box, we uncovered a few, so here they are!:-D

It was a bit of an experience for me as well, having never seen it new hehe. Oh and the title of the thread refers to the fact that this car always has been, and always will be known as "The grey car" in our family :) We never could call it "the subaru" since we've always had 2, and well the grey car has just been it's name for all these years.

You might have to excuse the poor quality of some of these shots since they are scanned directly from the photo (I even had to edit out some tea stains )

First up, the first ever pictures of the car, 3 days after mum and dad took delivery in 1981:

Not sure where this is, but it's around the same time as the others since it has the stock wheels and no stripe.

The next few are a bit later on, after dad put on the stripe, mags and had the windows tinted

Another camping trip, this time with the full length roof rack, which to this day dad regrets selling

And just for the heck of it, our L series, known as "The white car"

Right now the grey car is off the road (no longer regoed) but, she's mine now and I'm going to get it back to looking as good as I can possibly get it. It will probably need a respray sometime next year, also the usual rust spots (windscreen, tailgate corners) will need welding.

Just the other day I recieved a little package from the subie boys with the windscreen corners, little pieces of art that they are  A huge cheers to Steve for sorting those out for me, hopefully with that I can replicate some of these photos 30 years on

Very nice memories there I bet :)

Yeah this MY was the first, then dad's L, then this year my brother got an 04' Impreza, talk about loyalty

Also I found some more photo's, better ones this time of the car in the mud, stuck in sand etc :-D
Problem is...they're slides! :???: I'll put them up as soon as I can find a way to get them on the computer (I've seen those usb slide scanner thingamajigs but they're about $130!)

Cheers

New (or old?) photos!

Post by Silverbullet » Sat Apr 16, 2011 4:26 pm

Reviving a bit of an old thread of mine, I found some more photos! These ones are more of the Subaru club of SA in the mid eighties (before I was born ), with some of our grey car in there as well. I love some of the lineup photos, almost all MY's :-D

Aplogies for the quality of these though, would you believe it these were slides not photos, so I had to setup the slide projector and take photos of the projected image as well as I could. So some of these are blurry or too white.
