production codes AF5E, 5F, 5G, AM5 etc

Post by steptoe » Wed Oct 13, 2010 1:24 pm

there is more

AA5-7, AG5, 6, AL5-7, AP5, AA3, AP3, AB5, 5A, AF5, 5A, AM5A, AJ5

all listed inparts books for MY and L

I thought these were in the VIN, until I went to look and compare, my VIN starts with

JF3AU5

Does not compute, are these numbers stamped in body somewhere else that I can use (sometimes ) as a reference?

Jonno.. from my understanding, if your model is say a AL5 (Leone sedan for example) then your VIN would be on the lines of JF1AL5..... in Australia and NZ.

There is a list on the web of all the models and their codes.

In Japan and I'm guessing the rest of the world, their VIN starts with just the model number then the production built number.. i.e AL5-000123

Yes, I see, but see no correlation between any of your VINs or mine to the codes quoted above from a clutch book - thought these codes were to assist, not confuse

If it's an aftermarket manufacturers parts book then I'm going out on a limb and say that they have nothing to do with the Subaru coding other than they are very close to the MY and L.Series model numbers. I'm sure you've found out yourself going to any parts place that if it isn't a Subaru dealership then you'll end up wth something completely different than what you've ordered :???: I find clutches and brakes to be the worst offenders.

I reckon it would be the different body shape, like GC8 or GF8, depending on sedan or hatch , BE5 or BH5, BC5 or BF5 etc, etc,
