If my memory serves me well I think the Wonder Brumby uses a modified Fiori distributor driven from the LH camshaft. I think Steve Rising Sun is the man behind that one, something about milling the back of the head to accomodate the dizzy, not sure of the fine details though. Full gas obviously means no need for fuel management, and the dizzy takes care of the spark side, so the ECU is left out entirely.
Dave, the Hatch runs on petrol and a coil pack. That makes it a little harder, but it is still possible. The blower Matt is using is the one I have been making a song and dance about for ages... I do remember suggesting this for the Hatch some time back...
You'll need to get either aftermarket management or an ECU remap. I've not seen a plug and play for an NA EJ, they're all focussed on the early turbo models (EJ20G and EJ20K). I've not seen anyone who remaps NA ECU's either, and I don't suggest this path as you spend just as much and are stuck with one tune.
When I considered putting an EJ22 with an SC14 Toyota blower in my wagon, I had to factor in the cost of a complete wire in replacement ECU. I hadn't fully researched it but the Microtech LT8s was what I had budgeted for and what I had in mind. I was going to try and use 4 coil packs for spark, ala EJ20 turbo, and hopefully use the turbo injectors to provide the extra fuel. This plan of mine never really got any further than a few sketches and notes in my trusty notebook, so I don't really know if it would be a goer or if I'm making a fool of myself. You never know about these things until you're halfway in, for all I know the injectors wouldn't fit and the ECU wouldn't play ball.
Rough guesstimate of cost excluding stuff arounds but including initial EJ conversion costs (with adaptor plate, EJ flywheel and custom clutch) was around the $6000 mark. Not saying it couldn't be done a lot cheaper, and if the car was already EJ I'd guess around the ~$2500 mark, again possibly less.
Costs I didn't factor in were new tyres after I smoked them off and new shafts after I snapped them like twigs!
