Hi all
I'm new here and hoping to get some help from you guys.
I recently purchased a '97 Subaru GX Impreza for my daughter. I knew it was a repairable write off, but did not know what was required to re register it. For several reasons I have decided that it would be better to find another Subaru with a blown motor or gearbox and transfer whatever is necessary to make it good. It has an EJ 20 motor and manual transmission and it is 2wd.
What I would like to find out is what years and model Subarus I can look at that the components will bolt straight into ie are awd models using the same motor and gearbox are liberty's and wagons using the same components ????

G'day and welcome!

The engine itself will be a direct bolt in fitment to
any Subaru with an existing EJ engine, impreza,
liberty, outback etc.

You will also need to transplant the loom and computer
to match it.

The engine will bolt to an existing AWD car with
the the same EJ engine family

I would suggest you buy only a AWD Impreza from 1993 to 2000.. what we call the GC/GF or Classic shape. This way everything like ECU and wiring will be correct but there are lots of small changes so best to find one of the same year. All Liberty/Outbacks of the same era are different (some parts are interchangable) so you'll need lots of other bits to complete the AWD swap.

Grab an AWD impreza - its the only way to go, 2wd sucks! I'm sure regardless of the wiring the engine block at the very least will be interchangable - just make sure you get the "dead" engine with your well bodied impreza. Then I believe you'll be able to simply swap the block out with the original intake manifold that came with the vehicle. This way you simplify the wiring as there is no need to swap anything out, just need to drop in the block for plug and play

If this is not true, someone correct me, and quick
