02 oil level/dipstick trouble

Post by dylz02 » Thu Sep 02, 2010 5:25 pm

hey there, i have recently bought myself a 02 wrx. i gave the car a basic service the other day (drained oil and changed filter) and re filled oil.i am having trouble with the oil level registering on the dipstick..i have put 3.5 litres in and its not leaking a drop and shows no sign of leaks or faulty seals. when i check the dip stick it barely registers on the tip. i dont want to put to much oil in and do damage and i know the engine is only really designed to hold approx 4 litres!

any tricks/tips/help would be much appreciated!

cheers
Dylan

Put oil in until it shows it's full. You do this by looking at the dip stick. If there is no oil on the dipstick then there isn't enough oil in the engine - Put more in. If it goes above the full mark, you've put too much in, drain some out. :)

the FSM says it should have 4.2 litres of oil in it and a little bit more for the oil filter

I put 4.5 litres in my EJ22 with new filter...

Brings it up to the full mark every time. Done.

3.5 litres is definitely NOT enough!

yep EJ22 for mine is 4.5litres..
Hint: remove oil filler cup to inspect the oil level - sometimes you find having problems with steady level, so remove the cup to minimise bubble/air pushing in when you push the dipstick in..
Cheers
