Thanks for that...been checking that site for the last few weeks but nothing comes up that I'm looking for....
Anyway, put deposit down today on the 07 Outback 3.0 R and subject to a final NRMA check will pick it up next week! Feeling a bit relieved that I've finally made a decision and quite glad I've stuck with the Outback...now to work out what kind of stereo upgrade I can go for...I guess that's my next dilemma! Should I start a new post! LOL

I drove a 4 GEN and a 3 GEN 3.0L Outback on the weekend. The difference between the two was amazing. I'm not normally an auto driver. But the tiptronic on the 4 GEN makes it almost liveable. And I was very dissappointed by the 4sp Auto in the 3GEN. Definately lets the car down.
So in my opinion, good buying

Tell them to bash their $1,000 warranty up their arses, just a con job which makes the car yard a LOT of money & they'll be laughing at another sucker walking out the door as you leave.

Well I guess you don't rate them D Generate?
I've heard similar reactions and seen a few stories online, but would like to hear some other thoughts.
It includes NRMA roadside recovery which costs us $140 a year, which amounts to $700. So in effect it would be costing us $300 as we'd be paying for the NRMA anyway...so maybe I'd be the one laughing...yes/no?

Used car warranties aren't worth a squirt. I had one on a previous car (didn't pay for it, got it thrown in), and when the car's electric fuel pump failed, the warranty co wanted the mechanic to rebuild the pump or get a second hand one.
Do you get to maintain your continuity of NRMA membership if you go from paying it yourself to getting it through the warranty? Does that matter?
Dane.

Had a friend that used to own and run his own car yard (A wholesaler for canberra) and even he used to say their a con! but I thought a car of that value would have it thrown in for free!d_generate wrote:Tell them to bash their $1,000 warranty up their arses, just a con job which makes the car yard a LOT of money & they'll be laughing at another sucker walking out the door as you leave.

I got sucked into buying one in 79 when I bought a new RS2000 Escort, I thought the dealer said an extra Ford 3yr warranty (I'm sure he did) on the phone, I was living about 250K's north of Kalgoorlie at the time, when I rocked up in Midland to pick up my pride & joy it turned out to be a Forte warranty which meant I had to drive 250K's to get my car serviced "on time" at a Ford dealer to keep it valid, I gave up after the first service & told them where to shove it.

It comes with a 5 year unlimited warranty that basically covers about 30% of the car....I'm guessing its basically your main mechanical parts!tex wrote:Had a friend that used to own and run his own car yard (A wholesaler for canberra) and even he used to say their a con! but I thought a car of that value would have it thrown in for free!
So it does come with some degree of warranty, this extra one is just over and above...I'm starting to think its not going to be worth it!
I requested a copy of both the free standard warranty and the additional paid for warranty...maybe I'm being naive but it seems like a pretty comprehensive list of things covered so what is the issue with these kind of warranties? Do they not honour them or just wriggle out of paying up when the time comes? Or something else? Because if it says in writing that they will fix/replace a quote 'starter motor' or 'alternator' or anything on the list then how can they not have to do that by law??
No reply speaks volumes...maybe nobody has really had any bad experiences or of course maybe nobody has seen the thread! With respect to those that did comment I'm wondering if peoples negative comments are based on hearsay and not on actual facts!
Ive done a lot of research on this and there are lots of bad stories but there are a few good ones... I've spoken to about 6 different companies today that offer after market warranties and frankly I'm thinking it could be worth it...Its all very well people saying "not worth the paper its printed on" etc but you need to back it up...I spoke to a lawyer and they said if its in writing they don't have much of a chance to deny doing the work!

I don't see why they would offer a warranty they were not willing to honour. It does not make much buisiness sense to do so, and if they don't honour a contract then you are in a good position to take legal action. The only things i could think of looking out for is the details they place upon it; e.g does it cover engine and drive train? Can you have it serviced anywhere or is it at their car yard only? etc etc. Obviously you've looked into that in great detail so you will know, if you are happy with the coverage then good
. My experience with second hand car warranties has been that they requrie the car to be serviced at that respective dealer in order to maintain the warranty. If that is not the case then that seems like a pretty good warranty deal to me.

Fair comment GOD, thanks.GOD wrote:I reckon everyone has said their piece. My contribution, fwiw, is based on personal experience. Take it or leave it.
If you think it's worthwhile, get it. Your call.
Dane.
It does have to be serviced at the dealer but any work required for consumables etc can be done anywhere, so its just the 6 month/ 10,000 k service...and I get it done there anyway as its 200 meters from my work! All major parts are covered so I might take the option....thanks everyone for sticking with me, I appreciate the input from all!
