MY Tourer Elec Window Fuses?

Post by BaronVonChickenPants » Sun Oct 16, 2005 10:33 am

Does anybody know where to find the fuses and/or fusible links for the electric windows in an '84 MY Touring Wagon, the gregory's manual says that they exist but not where to find them.

I've looked under the control panel in the centre console, in the main fuse box and had a quick rumage under the dash.

If no one knows I'll continue rumaging and let you know what I find.

Thanks,
Jordan.

Under the drivers side seat there is a circuit breaker fuse.... when it goes off it's suppose to come back on by itself unless it's faulty. I belive there is some other wiring maybe a relay under there that is related to the electric wondows too.

OK, there is 1 relay and 1 little black box thingamy, both seem to be intact.

When I got the car the drivers window and the passenger side rear window worked, now only the passenger rear window works, I've applied power directly to the motors and they're fine, so I'm looking for the fuses.

I belive they all run off the same fuse... so i doubt u will find a blown one,
there should be some sort of block with 2 bolt down type terminals under the seat some place... thats the circuit breaker.

The drivers window also has a auto wind up module thingo... under the dash... i think it actually has power windows or something of that effect written on it.. It's under the drivers side on the acceleratoir side of the kick panel some place from memory.

I belive without this module being plugged in the drivers window wont work at all. It could be that being faulty.

Does it not work off either the switch on the door or the switch in the console?

Yeah found the circuit breaker.

Every switch does nothing except the ones relating to the rear passenger side window, both the door and console switch for that work.

I had a quick look under the dash but didn't find anything significant, I'll have a better look tomorrow.

I think I've found what you were talking about:

It was mounted using the same screws the hold the bonnet release bracket.

With it removed the rear passenger window still works, I think all it does is make the drivers window go up and down without having to hold the switch.

Upon closer inspection of the wiring diagram:

It appears that there is a single fuse and a single fusible link for the whole system so asuming that 1 window is getting power then they all should be getting power.

So to the next problem: WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???
If the fuses are fine and the motors are fine then one would assume it's a wiring issue, is there anywhere in particular that would be the first place to check?

Amy said it must be gremlins, all I need now is some bright lights to get rid of them, must keep them away from water.

Could be possible that the wiring runs through the switches in the door before it reachers the electric motors... in which case.... if the swictch died you would have nothing from either switch.

Other than that it doesn't sound like fun to fix.... time to bypass some wiring i think.

Thanks dave, the EJ takes priority from now on, I'll look into it either when the EJ is in or when I need to do something different.

Pull the switches apart & clean the contacts.
Then regrease them with conducting grease.
Big problem on all subies, especially considering yours is 25 years old.
