go for a dual stage or electronic controller, bleed valve just spikes and stuff and is inconsistant. electronic is accurate and wont spike etc... nothing like going hard then breaking your nose on the wheel when u hit fuel cut

there is a restrictor peice of brass with a very small hole in it. Look / feel for it in the Vacuum rubber hoses coming off the turbo

ok since i found the hose leak and replaced it the car does not boost to 15psi anymore:( Max i saw it go was about 9-10.

Although it on a few occasions did( about three times), i'm in second, accelerate and it would boost to about 6psi, then when the revs gets to about 4.8 it will increase till it hits 8-9 at 6000revs.

It also feels like its hesitating between 3.5 and 5000revs then feels fluent if you know what i mean.

And i also hit the boost cut once or twice (not sure how much it was)

I still didn't get the coils yet.
Any ideas?

thx

Hi guys,

Bad news, The fluctuating boost problem started again a few days ago:(
So now i think i should try and swap things over.
Does anyone have a spare boost solenoid unit i could borrow to test on the car and eventually buy.

Thx

No luck guys,

Today i swapped the boost solenoid unit, took it for a drive after. It was great for about the first 10 minutes, but then it started to feel sluggish again. Didn't see it boost over 10psi though.

I also went over all the vac lines, removed them all and inspected every cm, replaced everything that seemed loose, and replaced everything using my bro's AUS delivered RS as template to put it all back on.

Ideas????

symptom: car feels real sluggish when boosting, specially from 3500 to 5000revs and then feels normal. This happens when car is at operating temp. Doesn't seem to do it when cold.

best to try all the suggested fixes before branching out into more wild ideas. It doesn't take that much to get these motors to run properly.

Have you changed coils yet?

Replace the fuel filter. A brand new one can be rooted if it's had enough bad/dirty fuel through it. Might as well, cost f/all.

Long shot, Clutch isn't slipping a little at the higher revs? oil leak on it?

The reason why I suggest is that I get in my EJ20 NA a good start when taking off, but once I hit 2500 -3000 my K's sit and the revs just go. So the car doesn't move. I have a clutch that is on it's way out. So my thoughts at that's my problem and seems a little (just a little) similar to yours. Place it on a flat surface, put it into fourth and slowly let your clutch out giving it a few revs.

As for me, I'm going to start my own thread I think and see if I can possibly get some more suggestions.

yes I will second this if the motor was sitting for a while before it went in (even for a short while) the filter could be a big problem

Na the clutch is ok, Does not slip between 3 to 5, its definitely the motor that is being sluggish.

Ok i will swap the fuel filter. coil didn't get here yet.

thx

Always best to cover the simple and most obvious things first before spending time on long-shots.

Just an idea. quick and easy to diagnose.

Have you tried some Electrical cleaner through the TB? Can you hear any sort of sucking noise from an injector? Not a leaking Injector?

I had similar issues with my Gazelle last year, turned out to be an injector wasn't sitting sealed properly, Would work on start up, but once you rev it enough, or just reversing off the driveway and gets a little bump, the engine would drop revs. when pulled up at lights, had to drop it into neutral while slowing down and keep about 1000revs going. Again, it was NA but it was "Sluggish"

Just some food for thought.

You reckon wrong, 2day my brother finally got his bosch coils and installed them on his rs, so i was able to get his coils that worked fine on his car and put it on mine. I also changed the fuel filter to a new one.

No difference at all, its still the same. Car is still doing all the weird stuff, boost is fluctuating and car still feels like it doesn't want to go.

Tomorrow i'm planning to swap the std BOV and use that subaru top cleaner thing.

Ideas now?
