Im more interested in the fact that there are blank wheels out there that can be drilled with the 4 x 140mm stud pattern

yeh thats the way. If you are able to justify spending the money to buy brand new wheels then no doubt you could also afford to put in a Crossbred kit to upgrade to 5stud, and massively upgrade your brakes at the same time. Then you have your choice of heaps of rims without having to look for blank non-drilled ones.
