EA to EJ LSD

Post by H-top » Wed Jun 23, 2010 9:34 am

G'day,

seems my chance of getting a 3.9 CLSD from an L series
are pretty low.

So I'm wondering if I can get one from an EJ?
What's involved?
What am I looking for in a Diff for it to be easiest?
What is the easiest way to do it?
What else, if anything needs to be swapped?

Cheers all

your talking rear diff right??
well my guess is they would be the same (almost) as the vicous ones so you need to work out fitting one of them to the ea's, i seem to remember a few post about it on here
the internals are the only thing that should be differnt IF you can get one!!

G'day,
Yeah it will fit in your L series no problems, the housing is the same as Liberty & L series. But the flange can be different size/shape and a press/gear puller is required to pull it off.

Yeah rear diff.

What if I can get the whole diff, not just the centre?
Are the shaft splines the same?

as alpine raven has shown this is not my area of expertise
but i would imagine the splines are the same as the viscous diff in which are different from the Ls

Any EJ LSD will fit no matter what the ratio. If you get one with the male stubs it is a simple matter of swapping the centres over. If you get a female LSD then you also need to get the cv cups. You use these cups with your cv race (balls and cage) inside the new cups.

So for a direct centre swap I need to find an LSD with male stubs protruding from the diff case?

Are they less
common than female ones?

Yes they are. There is still plenty of them around though.

yes and yes... MAKE sure the stubs are in the diff, they can be pulled out and both side (left and right) are different length.
If there is no stubs then you have a very hard chance to find stubs for the LSD - so be aware.
I'm pretty sure its the same as L series - Liberty splines.. Because I had one L Series cup from the diff a while back and fitted on gen 1 liberty.

edit: if you really need to know how many splines there are - i have an LSD in the garage with stubs and I can count it if you like..
