Osram Rallye 65W H7 Halogen globes.

Post by Barry1956 » Mon Jun 14, 2010 10:51 pm

Apparently Osram Rallye 65W are the 'ducks guts' of halogen globes. See post #5 on this link http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/80- ... ation.html Subaruoutback.org.
Does anyone have any idea where they might be available from in Aus? (I drew a blank using google.)

BTW, FWIW, there is a fair bit of info about HID conversion, and why NOT to do it, which can beaccessed on SO.org. For mine the globes I am after are the safest way to go, until HIR globes for the H7 become available, as they are already for the H1 lights.

What do you mean HID conversion kits are all over ebay with h7 and all others?

I converted navara spotties this way and they are twice as bright as any 100w halogen bulb I have used and only use 35w. They have been in for 3 years with no problem.

I plan to do the headlights some time soon.

The only downside is that that they take a few seconds to `warm up' like a fluro.

No worries... i havent checked that website..

Currently I have HIDs in my Liberty and never looked back, bought them on ebay and very little mods required to get them to work.

I know that HID can be done physically, however the simple fact is that they are illegal for use in road registered vehicles, unless OE, or specified OEM up-grade.

O.K., with a bit of luck we will never dazzle anyone sufficient to cause a crash resulting in death or serious injury, but I don't want to take that chance, for several reasons:
1/. I 'guilt trip' easily;
2/. If anything inadvertent occurred my insurance would not cover, and I recon we worked hard enough to get the house to lose it for such a stupid reason.
3/. I know how annoying overly bright lights from behind can be on the 'roller coaster' that is the Princes Freeway between Geelong and Melbourne, and I don't want to be the cause of that annoyance to others.

For mine, Osram Rallye low beams, HIR high beams, up-graded fog lights and a set of wide angle & pencil beam driving lights will be plenty. And TOTALLY legal.

Thanks bobbyjimmy, I had been hoping to source here, as his freight seems way high, but they don't seem to be available locally.
How did you find them, esp with regard to longevity, what did you change to and why?

There is other thing i should add, i have projector headlights on mine and its perfectly aimed, ive been in other car oncoming towards mine and it doesn't show 'scatter' or 'glare' to blind other drivers.

Ive seen some really horrible glare/scatter from other cars with normal headlights which do blind you on coming and looks like they're on full beam and straight away i know its HIDs, they arent designed for these type of headlights because the headlight are designed in specific shape, you'll be lucky to have headlights that will accept HIDs, subaru ones doesnt except projectors. There is a rare Gen 3 headlight that does have HIDs - cant even see one on market, its JDM.

Also, if you are able to accept HIDs in normal headlights, I recommend you to get 4300k or less, not 6000k because you will get caught, with 4300k its more yellowish and you will get away with it. 6000k is too blue and you will get picked up easily.
Ive been passed MANY breath stations & cops - countless and they havent picked up.

Currently I am running 4300k HIDs in my Liberty, was 6000 & 5000k and didnt like them both, im comfortable with 4300k.
There is a HUGE difference between normal globe and HIDs, HIDs tend to pick up more on reflectors, line markers and still pretty good in wet weather & fog without feedback from fog.

Cheers

If you email them/him, they usually work out a better shipping rate.

Had them for abit over a year (if I remember right...) where definitely brighter than the +50 type globes.
Only upgraded as I needed something brighter (I did LOTS of country road night driving) so ended up with a HID kit (and spot lights with a HID kit in them too).
Would/will not go back to globes after seeing how much better HID's are.

Yours is a Gen IV isn't it?
It already has projector type lenses in it.
If you adjust the lights after you put a HID kit in, the cut-off is pretty bloody good and you won't blind anyone - I put a set in my wife's 06 Impreza (which has the same projector lens set-up as yours) and wish my Gen III had the projector lenses - they are that much better.
