EA82 head retension insitu - you kidding ??!
I retensioned my LHS head bolts on the EA82T when I had the cam box off to relace the Hydraulic Valve Lash Adjusters and the head retension was easy. And by the way, to add a few extra ft/lbs on initial tension did not seem to keep things tight after a few kilometres, so I recommend retension. Also found this on the EA81.
I am looking at the idea of retensioning the RHS too , just by rocker cover removal but bloody hell, how have you guys got in there with your home made off set sockets (what subaru and gregories say to use) I no got one but will have a go at making one using spare head, cam box to guide me.
I know that once I have an EA82 in a Brumby it WILL be engine out for even rocker cover gasket leak (or a lot of boob reno kit)

Dredging this one up. The factory manuals tell to retension after initial warm up, by allowing to cool then undo some degrees, oil threads, work oil into threads and then final retorque. My engine machine shop guy says not to undo first torque, skip reoiling and do, undo steps , just get into it and retorque to specs. I may have learnt a lesson not to just add a few more torque to initial as I did that and found head bolts not tight when I finally did retension after 20.000km. After another 3 or 5 thousand head gasket blew. Head is said to have copped some combustion highs and needed machining. Also since found temp gauge sender only worked up to quarter. Also reduced recommended LPG fuel mix on boost to reduce temps. Temp engine has now done 25,000km so may have things right for old engine to make a return. Just gettin' a bit cold out there for this kind of work - at least there is no snow on the ground !
like it says you can change head gaskets in situ??
this has to be the best thing to take your car back to the dealers for.
they have a set time to do it in, and it cant be done in situ so you have to remove the engine. SO.... you pay less for getting more hours worked on
doesnt really matter but meh
with the EA82 we tighten everything up before but not after warming it up, my performance engine is going to be run out fot he car before going in to stretch everything almost like if it were in a car

Cant you get 'MonoTorque' gaskets which dont have to be re-tightened?

Love to but keep being told ACL is in receivership, and some say (shot, it is catching) even they need to be retorqued. Have spied hiristic or like on USebay, seen some good and bad comments, due to their own fault? 35$US graphite, it is worth paying gen considering strip down involved in EA82T. ACL still need to contact them for availability.
