EA82 > EA82T Conversion wiring

Post by wrx_nut » Sun Apr 02, 2006 12:28 pm

ive pulled all the EA82 loom out of the front of my car to where the wires run down the right hand side of the car in the sills.... Do i have to take the rest out all the way to the taillights or do i cut the wires and match them up to the RX loom and join them..

what is the best way...?

cheers

Well, I didn't do it that way, just obtained a seperate loom to run the engine and hooked that up to the exisiting wiring at a few points.

The negative return wiring to the fuel pump in the turbo cars is run in heavy-ish gauge shielded cable back to the ECU as the ECU controls the negative side as well as the positive via the fuel pump relay. You should probably replicate that if you can. Having said that, in our conversion we found that this control line on the ECU had apparently failed, so we just earthed the negative side of the fuel pump to the chassis, and it runs all the time. This doesn't seem to cause any problem.

Apart from the fuek pump wiring, you could probably just use the exisiting loom, but that would involve joining a large number of wires. It might just be easier to change the entire loom over, as long as all of the plugs are compatible. You may have issues with the dash instrument plugs - you'll want to check that those are the same.

If you hadn't already pulled the exisiting loom out, I'd suggest stripping down the loom from the turbo car to make an engine-only loom, or getting someone to do it for you ...

righto, ive put the whole engine bay loom, and fuse box and wiring in and all the dash wires... all i need to do is join the wires that go down the back of the car... any ideas of where and how to do this?

thanks

why does the rx rear half of the loom have less wires than the touring wagon rear half of loom.... (ie- fuel pump wires, taillights, indicators)

????

That is normal. Indicators flicking fast usually just indicates (scuse the pun) that one or more lamps are either blown or not connected.

i no about that like is a globe is blown but this is extremly fast...doesnt flash but ticks in the switch area... indicator lights on dash are on constantly and ticking like crazy.... but thats the least of my worries

need to know which is the best way to wire up the rear half of the loom..where to cut and join and why there are less wires on the RX loom then the wagon loom...

wagon is a 85 carby touring wagon

cheers

When I did the EA82T conversion on my touring wagon we installed the whole loom from the turbo front cut which sounds similar to what you've done. The existing touring wagon loom was then cut just forward of the drivers seat and then joined into the loom from the front cut. In my case the job was made easier as the front cut was from a wagon so everything more or less hooked straight up. However the wire colours from the jap front cut didn't necessarily line up with the wire colours in the touring wagon, so everything had to be traced out to make sure all worked correctly. I think it took me the whole day just to do this.

The extra wires in the wagon are probably for things like, rear window wiper, washer, tailgate lock, rear courtesy ligh etc, that the RX won't have. I think I ended up having about 5 or so wires left over after my conversion that didn't seem to do anything so they were terminated and left disconnected.

also if you haven't found it already a lot of the extras will be for the locks and windows, they are a separate harness that unplugs in the kick panel. rear wiper and gate lock will be the only difference
