Automatic Gear Shift Lights

I have a MY09 3.0R Outback. When the lights are on (Headlighhts or parkers) the Auto Gear shift change lights are lit up with red background lights. When I turn off the lights the Auto Gear shift change lights go off as well. Is this correct or should they fade to a lesser illumination (that way i can see what gear I'm in when in a darkened carpark).

G-Day and welcome to AUSubaru

In my 01 Outback, when the lights (headlights or parkers) are on, the lights behind the gear position indicators are dim.

When the headlights or parkers are off, the lights behind the gear position indicators are brighter.

Have you had the car since new?

Has it always been like this?

I bought the car 3 weeks ago. It was owned by Subaru for 15 mths.
The lights have not worked since I got it.

Sounds like the dimming unit in the instrument display is faulty.

Take it back and ask them. Is it still in warranty?
