L Series baby bolt nut thread pitch??

OK. Got caught out assuming the captive nuts mounted under the L Series parcel shelf (sedan, of course) and just shoved in what I believe was M8 1.25 bolt (maybe it wasn't?) . I found some resistance, and instead of my usual practice of cleaning possible paint out of thread I just, well, forced it. Either my bolt selection was shtouse or baby bolt captive nuts have a world wide universal thread pitch that all manufacturers have abided by, and assuming it is an American thread pitch I have screwed up the thread , a little. Fortunately I am not mounting a baby support, more a twnety three? year old Camry eye level brake light to the centre inside rear window bracketed to use the centre baby bolt captive nut.

Any experience, before i go try measure the remaining captives?

From what I remember (my kids have grown up now) the bolt is a standard tread for all ADR cars. You can buy the attachment anchor including the bolt from just about anywhere that sells kiddy seats and the like.

But as for the pitch ??? sorry can't help

Yeah, that would be correct. Standard component fits any car on Australian market. Pretty neat if Australians can make Japanese fit an imperial captive nut to the vehicles to comply.The bolt head is 1/2" and thread looks very imperial. I doubt though a baby bolt was first invented in Australia post metric. Best guess is that it is an American thing and the rest of the world complies in providing same threaded captive imperial in all vehicles

Well yes the Australian Goverment make sure the Subaru is made from the Fuji factory with the correct captive nut fitted or else they will not comply to ADRs. The bolt was made standard (English Standard) back before we went metric and has remained the same since. If a car is imported to Australia after it's been registered in another country then it must be modified to ADRs.. like baby seat anchor, flat mirror on the drivers side, 50mm seat belts, brake lines and lights/indicators with the E4/E6 markings, etc..

Another note is that it is only the centre nut that is factory red. The left and right are captive on brackets rivetted into place finished in zinc. Find it hard to believe if the Foz cannot fit three baby seats/booster or the like how can my L sedan?
