you would be better off finding a later model I.R.S. (ford or holden) model thats 3.7 or 3.9 (good luck) and chop and change that to suit
have fun

I found a mob that can make an air locker for the R160 diff. Just need 500 orders at $1000 each.spike wrote:yeah its just there so hard to get cheap.

Now that you're off the floor and back on your chair, I think that was a polite way of saying piss off... That or they're after a tidy profit if it goes through.
Which reminds me, I need to get a tatts ticket, a couple of mill in the bank I'd have this done... AND the front too

Cheers

lol...........
polite way to say p..s off i think, yeah ill see what i can find in the way of a 3.7 and/or 3.9 rear diff and throw it in, only one way to find out and if i spen 50 bucks doing it meh ill sell it for scrap when the price goes up
going though the paper now, finding some cheap wrecked, commodore and falcons, got the diff ratio checker ready to go

Let me know how you get on with the commie/falcon diffs as I am looking for a nice stong diff for the L series that will handle sending all the power to the rear if I do end up making the L RWDspike wrote:lol...........

The problem I see with the com/falcon rear diff is the width and trying to fit driveshafts to make it work. Then there's the suspension movement in relation to the driveshaft angle -> The shorter the drive shaft, the greater the angle for the same amount of movement in the suspension...someguy wrote:Let me know how you get on with the commie/falcon diffs as I am looking for a nice stong diff for the L series that will handle sending all the power to the rear if I do end up making the L RWD
The other issue with the L series rear end is the amount of movement in the rear diff. I'm currently running rear wheel - not by choice, and can't wait to go back to front wheel drive. Basically what I'm experiencing is "bounce" in the rear diff on take off from standstill and low speeds. Not really good. By bracing the rear diff similar to the libery's system you may be able to remove this issue and not have a problem with the rear diff movement at all.
Something to look into as the rear moustashe bar and the rubber bush above the diff isn't really good for any bracing...

Sorry Spike.. don't think I can help other than to say, what are you doing with the car that warrants you to require a LSD?
Bennie.. you got me thinking again
I'll try and reply on your post ( if I can find it
)

my idea is just to make it a much easier option for people who want an LSD for athe subaru instead of fighting over the ones that are out there...
ill see about fitting just a commodore lsd of any ratio into a diff for someguy

Agreed with that. I've just installed my replacement front drive shaft, so the 3.7 diff ratio is the go once again. I ran out of day light so I've got to be very careful in remembering NOT to slip it into 4wd when on dirt as the 3.7 and 4.11 (in the rear) will do very nasty things to my gearbox internals!maxxair wrote:only 'need' to remove,(or break) 1.
I can understand the chasing of a cheaper LSD option. I know the feeling about getting shot down but if you're really wanting a setup like this you'll find a way to do it.

being in the engineering and student buisness we get shot down all the time.
had a guy come in needing a return spring for a supercharged ford falcon bf ute
the guy went to just about every place in south australia who could help and some out of the state and they all said it was impossible, one night of thinking and about a hour in the shop we had it done, its natural when youve got somthing no one else can offer

well if you're in the engineering business you'd be the first to create an affordable LSD centre OR air locker.
Just need a working unit to reverse engineer then size to the R160 carrier. That's bascially what the other mob was doing with their design... That's what pissed me off the most, they didn't need 500 units to make any money from, they just wanted to print the stuff!
Tooling up will the the issue ($$$).
Cheers
