steering rack
just thinking outloud - is it possible to modify a steering rack so it doesnt turn as far? like instead of being 2.7turns lock to lock, it's 2.4? obviously that increases the turning circle, but is it possible? and if so, how?

Are you talking about stopping the wheels from turning so sharp or having them turn just as sharp as they do now but with less turns of the steering wheel to do so?
If its the latter you'd have to find a steering rack that has the appropriate ratio, or have bits made up to fit your steering rack that creates the ratio you're after.
I think the L's steering ratio is something near 3. something larger than 5...
Cheers

Yep, 3.7 per '89 fsm on the L series, thought my rx was a little better than that thoughEl_Freddo wrote:Are you talking about stopping the wheels from turning so sharp or having them turn just as sharp as they do now but with less turns of the steering wheel to do so?

talking about keeping the ratio the same (ie the internal gearing), but not allowing the wheels to turn as far - so basically stopping them from turning so sharp.
the best way i can describe it is say the stock rack can turn the wheel to a 45 degree angle. i want to stop the movement of the rack so that it stops at say a 35 degree angle

well the cross bred kit comes with nylon bushes that go on the end of the rack to do just this, although all later model subarus have a much worse turning circle so you could always bodgy one of them to fit!
