Intake manifold questions.

Post by isnowi » Wed Jan 27, 2010 5:16 pm

Hi all, i have a slighty techo question in regards to intake manifold configuration on twinport ea82's.

I found the thread on the 'spider' manifold as per the mpfi motors, what i am wondering is if the non ' spider' ( i presume this is spfi) are assembled in the same manner with the water crossover pipe bolting to the head, and the manifold on top of that. Pictures of one of these types of manifolds would be greatly appreciated.

Basically i'm looking at the feasability of using the bottom part of a spider manifold ( or the non spider one if it is similar) to mount a pair of IDF's. Obviously i'll be using the twinport turbo type heads.

I have to rebuild my motor (ea82 single carb) as it has been milkshaked, and i'm wanting to tinker just a little...

IDF's i can get cheaply from a mate, and failing the use of the lower manifold portion i can fab up my own crossover pipe to work.
Cheers,
Dan

ok ill be the first to tell you.
the biggest problem with the ea82 is the head, no point building a special manifold for the single port heads.
what do you want to do with the car??

I plan to use twinport heads from a turbo, car is a toy, is in a brumby, will be used to ferry me and my bikes around when i decide to go for a ride. will probably get a mild lift and some bigger tyres, thats about it though.

Ultimately it is a toy to play with now that my race car is gone..

*drooool* race car lol
if your getting the twin port heads just get fi system for it ie get a injected motor.
or hook it up to a side draft.
its hard to get massive power without getting an ej.

I'm keen to stay carbed at this stage, don't want to have to muck about with wiring, fuel lines etc. We'll see how things go.

If it wasn't for needing an adaptor plate i'd probably run a carb'd ej20 or 22, but then i'd need to certify it for road use, and i wouldn't be able to resist doing way more than i ever planned...

Race car was a mk2 VW polo with with a 1300 inline 4, ported, polished, on bike carbs, made around 85 90 hp, but only weighed about 700 kg. Was proper fun for a club car. Had to move it on as it wasn't getting the use it deserved.

ahhh ok well yeah i really like the idea of carb SU simply on the fuel injection manifold.
when i modify my heads to duals or somthing different, then ill put twin su carbies on a custom mnifold cause ive got a set of carbs lined up.

mmmm sounds nice for a bit of fun, thats all i want with my monster open wheeler

i see, use the base 'adapters' of the spider as carb mounts and hope retain base only serve as water crossovers ?? need to look at that for a tick....

Mmmm not a bad idea.

Will the carbs need an equalizer tube between them?

Well, if anyone does, play around with the 'feet' of a Hi-Rise manifold, I'll by the top, I have erotic plans for one of those and I want a spare to work with...
The trading corner : the stuff that I need ATM -

'fraid not- the MPFI 'flat' manifold is a one piece cast, but still with a seperate coolant manifold.

That could still work, if the coolant crossover pipe is seperatet then new inlet manifolds for idf's would be easy, id the crossover the same or similar to what the single port carb motors have?
