Which Liberty caliper bracket for L caliper on Lib knuckle ?

Post by discopotato03 » Wed Dec 30, 2009 10:30 am

Hi all , can anyone tell me which early Liberty front brake caliper brackets also fits the L series floating caliper section .
The aim being of course to have L hand brake calipers on a std early Libertys knuckles and hopefully discs .
If anyone has such a thing for sale ...

Please just the info rather than alternative brake solutions .

Cheers and thanks , Adrian .

I thought XT6 was the only one that you could retain the front handbrake.
Current rides: 2016 Mitsubishi Triton GLS & 2004 Forester X
Ongoing Project/Toy: 1987 RX Turbo EA82T, Speeduino ECU, Coil-pack ignition, 440cc Injectors, KONI adjustale front struts, Hybrid L Series/ Liberty AWD 5sp
Past rides: 92 L series turbo converted wagon, 83 Leone GL Sedan, 2004 Liberty GT Sedan & 2001 Outback

Well it seems that the XT6 knuckles are similar to early Lib ones except the "minor" things .

Firstly the caliper mount holes are closer on XT6's , guessing same as L Series .
Secondly the inner bearing grease seal larger OD - I think .
Thirdly the vertical section that bolts to the strut bracket is slightly thicker in section .

Gee here reckons there were a couple of different suppliers of front calipers for Libs and one of them just happens to take the L/XT6 floating handbrake type bridge section .
So if you have them they fit the L floating section AND bolt to Lib knuckles . Ahh and also naturally line up with the Lib discs .
Gee did say that there were a couple of different styles of front pads for early Libs and that usually means different brands/suppliers of calipers to the manufacturer .
If I can find the brand I can probably find the bracket and with that bracket I can stick Lib knuckles etc straight in once I get those intermediate length XT6axles built up with 25 spl RX DOJ's and Lib CV's .

Cheers A .

Getting closer to the truth .

Someone in the US found the combination of Legacy caliper bracket that fitted the I think common L/XT6 front caliper floating section/pins/bolts and the parts I believe were from the Legacy SS - EJ22 Turbo version .

I'm reasonably sure they had the same brake hardware as our Liberty RS Turbo . I have a pair of the all iron/steel twin piston calipers and I remember proving a while back that the L caliper bridge and pins/bolts would fit except the thread pitch is different .
I've also heard that there is an aluminium twin piston bridge/floating section type caliper on some Turbo Libs and I wouldn't mind betting that they are the ones with the same size and thread pitch as the L/XT6 slide pin/bolts .

Does anyone here have the aluminium top twin piston calipers or brackets off them ?

Cheers A .
