2.5L turbo into 2006 Impreza
Hey everyone, this is my first post, sorry if it's in the wrong spot. I'm looking at getting myself a newish 2006 Impreza RX, and was wondering something. Will a 2.0L Impreza be able to fit the 2.5L turbo engine out of say a 2006 Liberty GT, or will the engine be too big, and I would need to get an RS to fit it?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Unless you are getting the RX for next to free, why bother, you'll need to change the whole driveline from front to back....box, diff, wiring harness etc and still end up with a converted RX...........just not worth the hassle, go look for a cheap WRX instead.
Yes the motors are physically the same and will drop in but a complete waste of time and effort.

Don't bother doing that either - cheaper and easier to buy a turbo motor.commanderjarak wrote:Also, how do the NA boxer engines go with regards to being turbocharged
Definitely the better way to go unless you want to spend your weekends under the bonnet.commanderjarak wrote:I guess I could always just get an RS for now, and then get a WRX when the insurance comes down in a few years

A RX with a turbo conversion is likely to cost you just as much in insurance as a WRX will

No laws on turbo or engine capacity in WA so he can go out and buy a Veyron if he's got the money, I'd have a look around for a converted GX or a genuine RS, there is a guy selling a really nice GX - RS conversion on PWRX, the car has a couple of problems but I think he's getting desperate so it might be worth a look.

Probabily using the same motors/setup/ECU. The difference would be in the body weight and this effects the power to weight ratio giving both vehicles a different feel.
As for your RX question: It will work with some effort. I can see why you'd be looking down this path and if you're up for the work I don't see why not. The end product could be a very good sleeper if you don't "rice" it up too much. Subtlety is the key to a good sleeper
My 5 cents...

Are the supercharger kits just bolt on, or would I need to do some work strengthening the engine up?
Also, I just realised that I could get a WRX, throw a FMI instead of the top mount, and then change the body and bonnet over to the RS bodykit, and get a BOV that's plumbed instead of venting to atmosphere.
Probably be cheaper to buy body panels than a new engine.

You really should be on PWRX asking these questions, lots of useful info over there and a local WRX forum. Just make sure you use the search button or the internet police will be after you and be prepared to be flamed if you ask any really stupid questions.

They are SOHC but still have 4 valves per cylinder, so it is nothing like the SOHC engines like the 2 valve per cylinder EA82wrxer wrote:i dont like that the rx are sohc. that is so 1980s
