price of used engines
I have been amused at the price of some used engines or rather the wide price spectrum on one suppliers published prices. A mate used to work at a dealership where one of the vehicles with the near highest priced engine was sold , serviced and repaired with emphasis on repaired. He HATES one in particular. Funny, how in the same breathe he mentions a citrus fruit, or rather you didn't get just one, you got the whole tree!
Now, what have I also found on the list? Cheapest engine price from is $395 ! That is for an AU Ford 4.0. EJ22 at $795 up to the EJ25 at $1750. The turbo variants go up to 2250.
Then, what's this near the top of the high prices?? $4 2 5 0. You are thinking Luxury, prestige or high performance. Nah, seen Lexus 4.0 V8 for as little as $1000. Must be rare and hard to get a good one....a xxxnival ......I understand $4500 on an 05 Hilux 3.0litre Diesel but not much less for a people mover donk??

try to buy a kir v6 and u will be looking at around $8.000 just for a new one as all the 2hand ones are around 4000-5000 as thay will not last 50,000 from new a very bad engine as the liner are just glue in and over time that slip and blow the head gasket lek water in the oil engine rs.
as for inport engines in comes down to price on demand,If i was going to but a late model engine it is just as cheap to but a complete car out of japan iiport it for racing only .
remove all the parts and place on a car u are building and sell the rest .
as shipping is not that hi from japan to aus and u can get a complete car for about $500-$1500 with all the good bits on it .
for all up cost of about $3500 landed in Australia port ..
the importers are just ripping us all off in Australia for engines we buy .
just Google japan car sales or the auction and see what car go .
this is just from what i have look at on the net .

It really depends where you go, if you go to pick a part style wreckers you could be spending around $150-$250 for 2nd hand engine. These prices are based as Melbourne wreckers, I know you can get EJ20 & EJ22 from Jollys in Dandy just under $200.

Sort of raises questions. Are these engines so rare because they simply not getting wrecked in a way that engines can be saved, not many in the first place, or so damn needed due to other reasons the price goes up, portion of the price includes a warranty?
The Falcon 4.0 are so plentiful and generally don't die easily unless cooked or you fit an aftermarket dizzy in t that chews out the accessory drive shaft teeth - nasty! Even the buy one at any milk bar Commodore V6 is 300 bucks more than the Falc motor

Yeah but I've had to install one of those $300 falcon engines. It was straight from a taxi and you could turn the harmonic balancer with your hands. We put it in the bloke drove down the road turned around and decided to rebuild the original engine. Although at picked I've seen the whole car go for half that. The exception being they buy the taxis for the gas system so they pay more for them.

Fortunatly I decided to get my rx on the road for winter and went shopping for a low mile import ea82t. I wasnt happy with what the importer had in stock and ended up leaving with an ej20t for future use and also for 100.00 less than an ea. Must be demand and rareity as they told me ea82 na's go all day at almost 1000.00. I was quoted 795.00 for an ea82t, paid 695.00 for the ejt. Begining of thanksgiving week my mid 80's toyota 3/4 ton 2wd dropped a valve and I thrashed for 6 days to get the rx on the road. Dont plan on buying used ( unless import ) and soon will be converting to 22re from a celica gt I have sitting. No pricing on web site but here is a link if curious. I think I would rebuild before buying used..same as it never was.

Just been through an engine replacement for a (to use terminology already used) xxxnival or kir v6.
All up just over $9100. Of this $5100 was labor and gasket/bolts which had to be from the original maker of the car (as above) or warranty was void.
This was a brand new short engine imported by a VIC company from Korea and reconditioned heads from the same company.
The $5100 as said was to put it all together and back in the car.
