fault code 22: knock sensor

Post by vincentvega » Tue Mar 14, 2006 9:35 am

I am randomly getting check engine lights on my 1991 EJ22

i have dumped the codes and the only one is 22 - knock sensor abnormal voltage

where is hte knock sensor located on a 2.2? Any hints on where to look to track this one down?

I get that code everytime i degrease my engine.

Check the main power loom plugs going to the engine. When i wet my engine a little bit of water tends to get in there giving me that code... Cleaning it out with some WD40 fixes the problem (for me) ... and filling the connector with grease stops it happening again.

I used to have a similar problem with the white RS I had. I ended up just taking it out and cleaning the surface where it bolts to the block and the connection (plug) behind the TPS. Worked perfectly after that. You will have three plugs there. One is crank sensor (dk grey), one is cam sensor(lt grey) the other is the knock sensor (single wire, white plug).
