Rear struts sqeuaking

Post by someguy » Sun Nov 01, 2009 12:36 am

Hi All.

My L Series has recently developed a squeak coming from the rear springs/shocks.

They are only 8 months old so they are not in bad shape they just squeak while driving (my street is a little bumpy so its pretty annoying).

Anyone have any ideas what I could be and how I could fix it.

Thanks Alot.

Well I applied RP7 all over the springs and struts and went for a drive and the squeaking is still there.

Maybe its not coming from them.

Anyone got any ideas what it could be?

Bushes. If they weren't renewed when the new shocks went in maybe they need to be. Otherwise just some lube, however WD40 etc are petroleum based I think and might ruin the bushes. There is special stuff you can use, BlackBox Motorsports on here should have some advice.

Yeah I might get the mechanics to check the bushes when I get the CV joint done next week.

The sqeaking only happens while im driving.

If I jump up and down on the car or shake it side to side when its stationary there is no squeaking.

Its only when driving.

Are you sure it's not the stabilizer bar bushes ? Mine were painfully squeaky when driving over bumps

I did have a squeak in my rear on my wagon a few months ago, used lithium grease spray on all "moving" joints ie. sway bar etc and it went away straight away after i applied, it hasn't come back ever since.
Cheers
