Should i go 2 or 3 inch on my brumby???

Post by guyph_01 » Sun Sep 27, 2009 8:55 pm

Hi guys,

My mate and I have finally got all the parts to do a EJ22 conversion with a 5sp EA box and the only thing we are missing is a liftkit for the Brumby.

We would appreciate to have some advice and suggestions from you guys. The thing is its gonna be a daily driver and my mate want's to be on the safe side with the law but we want it to be, if possible, as good as it could be for offroad purposes :D

Our questions are: Would we loose that much offroad performance if he went with a 2 instead of a 3 inch kit?
What would be the advantages of one over the other?
Would 27 fit with some guard cutting?

I know i went with a 3inch on my Touring wagon but its only a weekend ride. Well i guess if they want to yellow sticker me they could anytime, but yeah. Its just we were wandering how much offroad capability would we be loosing if we got the 2 instead of the 3 inch kit?

Thx

If you go 2" your car body will be 2" higher off the ground so you won't hit as any things on the underside when you go offroading. If you go 3" it will be 1" higher so you will hit even less stuff. 27's fit fine with either, but as always need a little cutting.
That's seriously about it :)

Unless somebody actually measured the blocks they would be hard pressed to tell the difference. I put a 2" kit in my white Brumby and then changed it to 3" when I went to 28" tyres. I did the same to the RX Turbo that I used to race.
The Brumby in my avatar only has a 2" kit but it's also had some serious panel trimming. I wouldn't bother with a 2" lift on a road car again. 3" is so much easier.

but remember your suspension, exhaust and engine are still the same height.
You really must be willing to go for bigger tires say like 28" to really get value out of 3" lift - IMHO
Bigger tires give you real lift, though its not so prominent on a subaru, as it is on a live-axle type 4wd.
27" tires go real well with 2" lift. Still need a bit of bashing with the BFH at the front a bit.

How many inches do you need to compensate for?

27s will fit on an unlifted L. Is a Brumby much different?

First question would you still have the 2 inch kit and want to sell it by any chance?
And what did you mean by "" I wouldn't bother with a 2" lift on a road car again. 3" is so much easier."" ???
Would you go 2 or 3 inch?

I've got all the blocks except the radius plates which are still in the car.
3" body lift will fit bigger tyres like 27"s, easier with less guard trimming and less tyre scrubbing.
