Hi All.
I have a 1990 L series sports wagon.
I am sick of the instrument cluster with only the speedo that comes with the sports.
I would like to head up to upullit tomorrow and get a cluster from a touring wagon that has both the tacho and speedo.
My question is...
Can I do a straight swap.
Is it just as simple as unplugging the old cluster and plugging the new one in or do I need extra wiring for the touring wagon cluster to run the tacho etc etc.
I do have a custom 2" tacho but I would much prefer the real deal.
Thanks

Bugger.
Looks like its a bit of work rewiring to fit the touring wagon cluster.
Im not overly confident doing any wiring as the L series is my only car and I would hate to bugger the wiring up...then I would be screwed

Easy way to get around "buggering up wiring" is to go to U pull it and get the tacho instrument cluster, also cut out the plugs that the instrument cluster connects into - I mean the two up the top. Then find a sports wagon/base model L series with the same instrument cluster as yours (preferably the same year as yours) cut the plugs from the instrument cluster and the wiring loom.someguy wrote:showthread.php?t=8558&highlight=instrument+cluster

Take all this home and make an "Adaptor" for the tacho dash. You may need to run an extra wire or two for the tacho. Bascially what you do is use the non-tacho instrument cluster plugs and wire them into the plugs that will fit the tacho instrument cluster. The wiring should be the same colours, if not it wouldn't be hard to trace the wires needed from the back of each dash.
You may need to change some pins in the circular plugs on the lower rear dash - I'm not sure about this but it is something to be aware of.
Good luck with it - I swapped out my standard base model loom for an MPFI touring wagon loom when I went to EFI, I also prefer the look of the tacho dash, its balanced and functional when compared to the 3 guage dash.
Cheers
