I personally think 3rd gen outback is okay, its same body as liberty is on.

resurect the dead post!
i got top gasket kit for 2.5 dohc for i think was about us$50 with head gaskets. throw on a timing belt for us$30 while you there. i reckon you can do the heads inframe, cause i have done rocker cover gaskets inframe. but the tightening sequence is complex. if i do mine i will pull moter as it has a bit noisy thrust bearing and i think its close to needing a plate.
try these guys, they were quick and cheap, took about a week to get here

Yeah, well I've got the 3GEN Outback and it's SOHC but definitely has a head gasket issue as I can see the water and oil leaking out of where the gasket is. Losing more water than oil.

Also, regarding eBay stuff, and brands/types of gaskets etc. to avoid and are the kits made for US EJ25s suitable for Aus delivered ones (assume so?)? I just don't want ones like the engine originally had as apparently these are bad.
