Ej22 > ej25

I am told that to replace an EJ22 in a GEN1 Liberty with an EJ25 quad cam motor is relatively straightforward, even using the same loom and the EJ22 ECU, with only minor loom extensions for some plugs.

How accurate is this, and will you still get the same power/torque/economy as the EJ25 runs with an EJ25 ECU?

I've heard of this being done with good results. Use the EJ25 injectors and the EJ22 engine wiring loom - there shouldn't be any need to extend any wiring as the EJ22 and EJ25 are the same dimentions externally...

Dunno about the same power torque etc but it will work.

Thats interesting... Would this mean that i could drop the EJ25 in My L series and will it run with the chopped EJ22 ECU and chopped loom?
Would it fit on the cross member?

AFAIK its all the same dimentions to the EJ22 - just that the internal stroke and bore have changed - that and the twin overhead cams are different... It should all run the same from what I've read.

The wiring extensions are for the water sensors. One the 22 they are on the back of the water cross over, on the 25 they are on the front. A simple fix would be to swap your manifold and cross over with the one on the 25. It would only take 20 minutes to do so with them both sitting on the floor beside each other.

You would only really want to do this swap if your EJ22 is dead and the only replacement you can find is an EJ25. Or perhaps if you find an EJ25 with much lower kms than your existing EJ22.
But in my opinion, to do the swap simply to explore possible power gains would not really be worth the trouble - there is really not much difference. Somebody post up the figures? Less than 10kw I think? A *little* more torque?

Only difference with crossmembers is with turbo motors.
